Hi, if you haven't already done so, I would recommend you remove the grate and heat plate to clean out the ash from the fire box. Accumulated ash will restrict airflow into the fire box preventing good combustion. While using genuine treager pellets and standard shut-down/cool-down cycle, I have to clean it out periodically.
Jim, it must be hard piped all the way to the grill's location. At that point, it must have a Gas Line Shut Off Valve. From the Shut Off Valve, you must have a 12 foot long gas quick disconnect hose, if you grill is a cart grill. If it's in an inland, it has to be hard piped into the island, have a gas shut off valve and the remainder can be a flexible stainless steel appliance connector.
All of the above meets the NFPA and National Building Code Standards.
If your grill came with a smoker box, you soak the wood chips of your choice in water for aprroximately 20 minutes, drain them and put them in your smoker box. Then cook. If your grill did not come with a smoker box, you can purchase one seperately.
I wouldn't recommend it. But, removing and cleaning the burners would probably help. Also, allowing more time to preheat the grill with the lid closed would help to.
FYI - Ducane is now owned and manufactured by Weber.
If you mean the burners are rusted out, then yes. You can get replacement burners either through the manufacturer or a big box houseware store that carries Ducane Grills.
fill it almost half way spread it evenly and make sure the coal is fully fired before you but any meat in. If charcoal still burning not fully fire and red do not put any meat in the grill. Cooking will depend on what you cooked and quantity of meat. The more the meat the longer it will take. My suggestion is to keep your eyes on what your cooking and if need to pull the meat out and test it if needs to. By testing the meat here and there paying attention with hands on will give you and idea how your grill works. everyone cook or smoke differently, some like it juicy and other like it juicy/dry or fully cooked. Buying a grill is like having a new girlfriend, you have to get the feel to know that person. Smoking will take a bit longer than standard grilling. Hope that help some..enjoy!
