Up till now my audio has worked fine but I can no longer record videos on Dell Webcam central, because it does not record sound. I have tried making the mic volume louder, it doesn't help. Also, on voice record, I cannot hear the playback because it does not record properly on that either and I cannot hear a thing. I have tried putting the volume up, restarting the computer, (my dell laptop has an inbuilt mic.) using a different mic, nothing is working.

I have a Dell 1545 with Dell web cam central & I've had this issue. The problem is that Dell web cam central installs it's own microphone settings onto your laptop called something like Dell web cam Live!. This isn't the built in microphone in my laptop & maybe not yours either. You have to change the settings for your computer system & Dell web cam central. Go to start> control panel> sound> recording .. on mine there is an option for Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" ... that is the built in mic. You want that for your default & apply it. Also .. as a side note .. I disabled the web cam central Live! microphone completely from this window. Then open Dell web cam central & go to the "Record Video's" option. In the middle of this is an orange button with a video camera icon. Next to this on the same button is a little arrow pointing down .. click that. Under microphone .. choose Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" just like the sound option in control panel. I've done this & it's completely fixed. I can record videos with sound & use my built in mic in voice/video chat.
Have you checked your device manager, is there any red/yellow alert in it? I suggest you to try to upgrade possible driver for this machine. Feel free to visit DigitalSupportTech for getting help.

Open the Dell Webcam Center, and look for Audio Source in the bottom right corner. Click on Microphone/Line In and then go to More, and select Internal Mic (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). Once the Audio Source says Internal Mic (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) then the microphone should be active."
once I click on the audio source in the right corner (which has been defaulted to the off setting) i open the audio source control box. there is only one option in the drop down box instead of two. SigmaTel High Definition Audio. Nothing else. What do I do now?!
I have similar problem with my Dell Latitude E5420. The audio source is not highlighted AND cannot be changeg.
