About 2 years old. Microwave turns on by itself and then runs for 3-1/2 minutes and then shuts off. Turns on again soon after and does same. No buttons work at all (not even cancel) anymore. Only way to shut off is to open door. Since they didn't recall, will never buy one in future!

Just called the number for an out of date warranty, and MC is indeed fixing the problem. It's a failed switch membrane (been a common problem with this model) and they're sending the part in advance of sending a repair technician to our house to replace it.
I just called the same number and was told I needed 4 parts totaling about $133. They did not offer to fix, or replace parts as it is out of warranty!

I have the same model and it has started doing the EXACT same thing. I've read in a few places on the internet about some other identical problems with magic chef microwaves. I'm glad my house isn't haunted!! I've been keeping it unplugged when not using it. I just read on another site that it's due to a "failed membrane keypad" Mine is still under warranty so, I'll just pass that information to them. If yours isn't under warranty, a repair guy should probably know how to manage it after hearing that name of the problem.
Try unplugging the machine for a few minutes, then retry. If still acting-up, then the controller probably needs to be replaced. Any chance that one of the control buttons is stuck down or feels different than the others. That would confuse the controller with a constant signal.
