Samsung SMH7174BC functions work, but won't cook

I own the Samsung over-oven microwave. Model#: SMH7174BC, 1.65kw unit. Date of manufacture shows Jan. 2005. It has worked perfectly for years. Recently, it will not heat, defrost or warm food in any manner. All control selections work perfectly as well as bottom lighting, fan, turntable, etc. It just will not heat. Any suggestions for me? I've been an amateur radio operator for 37 years so electronics do not scare me. Again, everything acts properly, it just won't cook.

SOURCE: The turntable on my microwave/convection

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven. You may have to cut the cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

We have the full service manual for this oven, and have uploaded it to our site here.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

SOURCE: Microwave not heating

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

If it's fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

Its either your primary door switch or there is a diod inside on the right rear that needs to be replaced. to check the door switch, remove the cover disconnect the wires frome the switch and place a jumper wire on them and try it . if the problem persists it the diod. be carful. make sure there is no power going to it when your hands are in the microwave. and do not let it run to long or you will damage it.

SOURCE: Samsung microwave oven turntable doesn't turn

Yes it just will not cook or defrost very evenly. It is not dangerous however.

Probably the motor or gears that make the turntable go are worn or burnt out.

SOURCE: Samsung Microwave Oven shows -SE- on the display. Why?

-SE- error means you have a shorting membrane keypad.

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

It sounds like you may have one or more bad connections on the bottom of your noise filter board.

The service manual for your model is here.

You or a friend can check the connections for "ring cracks," and if any are present, remove the old solder and apply fresh 60/40 tin/lead solder. If the push-on terminals are damaged, they must be replaced, too.

Hi my microwave is not heating food

There is a tube I believe, in microwaves that produce the waves that heat the food. A fan usually disperses the waves to make the heating more even, rather than cooking one spot and leaving the rest cold or frozen.

Replace it. Cheaper than the fix, unless it is only the fan. But you still have to take it in, and there will be a service charge on top of the parts replacement.

Samsung Microwave runs won't heat

Test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

If it additionally does not spin and no light, then check also the door switch.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be alloweddischarge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even ifpower is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their twocontacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Regarding parts, contact the seller here to purchase parts. (here in UK).

THE DOOR HAS A SAFETY SWITCH THAT SHUTS THE UNIT OFF WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED KEEPING YOU FROM GETTING "ZAPPED WITH RADIATION" ACTUALLY ITS JUST RADIO WAVES, ANYWAY THE JIGGLING OF THE HANDLE TO START IT IS WHATS HAPPENING THERE. IT COMING ON IS JUST A SHORT IN THE SWITCH THAT MAY BE FROM AN ALREADY SET TIME, OR ITS JUST MAKING CONTACT WHERE ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO. ANYWAY YOU NEED A NEW DOOR SWITCH.
