Typical, 1 cup of brown rice will need 2 and 1/2 cup water. Then depending on type of brown rice and your taste ( chewy or soft..) you can adjust less or more water to go from then.
You are probably hearing Japanese cup is 6OZ and US cup is 8OZ, but it doesn't matter if going by ratio as indicated above.

For one cup of brown rice how much water do i use.and for how long do i cook for

Sorry not sure about the cooking time but I am sure google would have the answer.
Brown rice needs more water than white rice. Using 2 cups of brown rice in a rice cooker, fill with water to the 3 cup mark.

How much brown rice to water? Thanks, OLinda

Add a little more water to brown rice than you would white. Rice cookers do not make a very good job of cooking brown rice and it often sticks to the base. Better to use only white rice in cookers

Lost direction on how to use my rice cooker and havn't used it in a while

To cook rice, fill center basin of base with water. Place the rice bowl on basin. Add rice and water as follows. For white rice add water in a 1:1 ratio to rice plus 1/2 cup. For brown rice add water in a 1:1 ratio to rice plus 3/4 cup. Examples: 1 cup white rice, 1-1/2 cup water; 2 cups brown rice, 2-3/4 cups water. Put lid on and plug in and in about 50 minutes you should have delicious rice.

I lost the cup that came with the rice cooker, and was wondering what the rice/water ratio is.

Hi,

For Jasmine rice, we use 1.5 C dry unwashed rice to 2.5C cold water.

For Japanese short grain sushi rice which needs washing, we use 2C dry rice, wash and drain it, than add 2.5 C cold water and let soak for 10 minutes, than cook.

For brown rice, we use a 2:1 ratio, water to rice, with 20 minutes soak time.

Hope this helps.

How do I cook brown rice in the rice cooker?

I tried it once and it wasn't easy. It appears that the automatic rice makers are calibrated for whit rice. Anyway, I had to add about twice as much water as white rice takes and restarted the cooker once or twice until it was done. It was a failure and I never attempted to cook brown rice in it again.
There may be rice cookers that have a setting and instructions for brown rice, but I've never seen one.
Good luck.

Amount of Rice

The Japanese measuring cup size of 200 ml works fine for my Hitachi RD-5083 and likely will work for most rice cookers. The standard US cup is 237 ml.

hi!

that may be a hard thing to do since you have a japanese manual.\

you can always use the 1:1 ratio for cooking rice though.

1 cup white rice = 1 cup water.

1 cup brown rice = 2 cups water

hope this helps!
