Am having trouble faxing, keep getting error messages with all different prefixes. Our phone service is Covad. When I report problem they always need to know what bod rate our fax is set to? Can you help?
Older fax machines used a 9600bps baud rate, meaning a transfer rate of 9600 bits per second. a Bit being an 7th/8th of a byte. The newer machines can transfer at 14400bps, which older machines can not read, as its too fast. thats why they asking the BAUD rate.
Testimonial: "Thank You for getting back with me so fast. This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank You"
Newer FAX machines always send at a maximum of 28800 baud.
Older FAX machines send at 14400 or 9600.
Similarly, two FAX-machines will "negotiate" a "compatible" baud-rate that works for both the "sender" and the "receiver", once the telephone-call has been "answered".
But, COVAD's support is not being helpful.
If you are getting an error-message, it's a problem with the "dialing" part of the FAX, not the FAX-to-FAX communication after the "remote" FAX has "answered" the telephone-call. So, if you are in an area that requires 10-digit dialing, be sure to program the 10-digit numbers into your FAX-machine. Also, if you have to dial '9' to get an "outside" line from your business telephone system, be sure that to program both a '9' and a 'comma' (to tell the FAX to "wait" slightly after dialing the '9', in order to get a dial-tone on the "outside" line).
Testimonial: "Thanks for your quick response. Each time we call Covad, they try to tell me it is something on our side. Always ask for the Baud rate, now I have it."
