Clicking noise sony bravia kdl-40v3000

My new Sony Bravia kdl-40v3000 lcd hdtv is making a clicking/crackling noise when it is powered off.  It lastes for about one to two minutes.  Is this normal?  Do you know what it is?  I had returned my first tv after about ten days because of this.  Only to find that the replacement tv is doing the same thing.   Any help is much appreciated.  Thank you for your time.  Marina

I just bought a new Sony Bravia KDL-46VL130. Mine does the same thing.Popping when first turned on and popping for a minute or 2 when turnedoff. Because you reported the same thing I'm going to assume this is normal.

I have the same issue, sounds more like a capacitor poping than plastic cooling/heating. this happens with my hitachi when it is off. it can be off all day and it pops every hour or so. what is this? It use to have a high pitch buzz noise when it was off. had it repaired under warranty, still have this poping issue.

I bought a 46" SONY Bravia KDL-46V4100 LCD TV 2 weeks back and notice the same problem - clicking noises that last for about a minute after turning off the TV.

  • pathisclear Jan 16, 2009

I have the same problem also. However, the clicking noise occurs every 5-10 minutes after the TV is turned off (it doesn't seem to go away).  It is a brand new set.  Will this eventually go away?  It's annoying as the set is in a bedroom.  Thanks for any help.

My new sony 40" clicks. It does not matter if it is on or off.

  • pathisclear Jan 21, 2009

To make matters worse, the TV has now started buzzing pretty loudly. Time to call a repair person, unfortunately.

My z4100 does the same thing. Really annoying. It goes 24 hours a day every 5-10 minutes. Sounds like a plastic cooling click but it's not.

I have had the same problem with my KDL-40Z4100. After having the power supply, various parts, and eventually the mother board replaced, i was eventually told by Sony that it is the TV Guide updating (it is NOT the cabinet nor anything else cooling off... the most I've had it off for is 4days straight - still clicks ). Sony Rep was very unhelpful (Sean at Customer Information Centre - 1-800-773-9667 ], and told me that even though i 'turned off' the TV Guide update - that it just turns itself right back on ( his words verbatim: "you cannot turn off the TV Guide update" ) -->ergo , clicking will never, ever go away.
This will be the last Sony product I ever purchase. Too bad, as I was previously happy with their products.
Do not waste your time trying to replace mother board / power supply / surge-protector, nor any other parts --> it is not a 'replaceable'-fixable problem ......

Normal 0 My kdl-46v4100 has been off all day and I've heard two or three clicks. It sounds exactly like the click you hear when it’s been off all day and you go to turn it on. A few minuets after it clicked I turned it on and to my surprise there was NO click sound.
This LCD TV (like most large displays) uses an Active Matrix of thin film transistors, aka TFT. Essentially the screen is a large array of transistors and capacitors. According to my previous observations; I suspect the random clicks are associated with the LCD circuitry providing a fresh “standby charge” to the TFT array (hence no click on power on following a “refresh”).

Not a solution, but an explanation other than “cooling off…”

I had the same problem. I tried the 'disable TV guide' solution...didn't work. Then I reset the TV, but didn't enter a time/date. Clicking went away. When I turn the TV on, it displays a brief message to 'set the current time/date', but then it disappears. Everything works fine now...on my tv. (KDL-46z5100). My guess is that the TV guide needs the date/time set to determine when to obtain updates (causing the clicking sound).

I am experiencing the same thing. I am now being told by a Sony rep that the problem is the built in TV Guide feature when it does not receive a signal. Try disabling the TV Guide in the menu and see if this stops the problem. If it does not work on the first try you should reset the TV back to factory and again disable the TV Guide feature. I am going to try this tonight when i get home from work.

I was having the same problem on my KDL-46XBR9, clicking sound every 3/4 min when TV is powered off. Called Sony support and they asked me to upgrade the software and reset the TV to factory condition. He said it was because of TV Guide being on. Went through the initial TV setup but disabled the TV Guide. TV is back normal and its about 30min and I haven't heard that unholy/annoying clicking sound.

It is most likely the cabinet setteling as it is cooling off. Nothing uncommon with all the plastic that is used in TV's.

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40W5100. My daughter purchased it in 2009 and gave it to me (2014) when she bought a new one. I also had the intermittent clicking when the TV was off. My 32" Bravia never did that. A search said to turn off the TV Guide and set my zip code to 00000. Initially that did nothing. However, the next day I realized I wasn't hearing the clicks anymore. It's now been three days of silence. I did futz around with Setup but not sure what I did. Man, is it hard to navigate. Anyway, all's well that ends well. The clicking was unacceptable.

SONY 52Z5100 Doing the same thing. A loud Click every 5 Min when off. This will go on 24/7 enough to drive one nuts. Sony replaced the mother board saying that was the trouble but the sound is still there. I tried turning off the TV Guide but it keeps going. The Sony Tech Rep? on the phome was not helpfull at all. Any other item I could return for a refund. Sony says I can't do that??

Looking for a table top mount for my Sony Bravia 40" TV (KDL 40V3000). It's no longer available from the manufacterer. Is there a universal mount that will fit?

I would check with MCM electronics who sells nearly 100 different universal mounts for many sets. They have a online catalog.

Could be the power board or main board defective, but I suggest you do firmware update first. Go to http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=KDL42V4100&LOC=3#div_pos_30 download the software.

Screen goes blank / black, sound still works

It sounds like your LCD Screen is no longer working. I would try contacting Sony and ask for a refund. I had the same T.V and the LCD Screen had gone out. A techniction came out and Condemned the screen and i had to pay $500 for a new T.V.

Tv bravia kdl 40v3000 problem turning on

To wayne: The balancer board is in fact available by itself. You can get it at many different parts depots here on the web. I just suffered from a similar problem, on the same tv and it solved my problem perfectly (Stupid 13 blink, blink code...)

The searchable part number is SSB400WA20. Its referred to as a voltage inverter (for the backlight of the lcd panel.)
Good luck!!!
