My $2,000 42" plasma Philips tv set was made on 2006. I bought it late 2007.
It is already August 2009 and don't turn on. The green light goes off and then flashes 7 times. After unpluging it for a couple of hours still turned on, but not anymore. It looks like it is a common problem, we have to get a lawyer and get a common suit
It's basically a common problem with all brands of flat panel TVs. Heat is the biggest enemy for circuit boards. And the flat panel TV generates a lot of heat.
The most common part to fail is the power supply board (Backlight Inverter Board) for the screen or the Main Power Supply Board for the TV itself. The flashing 7 times is a code for a technician look at a certain circuit path for the malfunction.
If you have some electronic experience and you want to repair it yourself, you can sometimes find a Service Manual over the internet for less than $20. It will have red light flashing codes, diagrams, schematics, and part number list. Cheaper than buying a new TV. :)
