Take of the housing ,turn it over and you will see the under side of the auto mix dial , Then turn the auto mix dial to rinse only;
On the top of the piston you will see a small slot , this fits into
the out side spiral on the auto mix knob with the dial set to rinse only the top part of the spiail sould point to the courner
Tilt the piston slightly, then hook it on the point of the auto mix knob , when you turn the auto mix dial to heavy traffic the piston should slide down the outer spiral of the auto mix-dial ,
Put the housing back on with the auto mix dial set to heavy traffic, but make sure no tubes are trapped or this will stop the flow of water,
i hope you can under stand what i have wrote ,Goodluck

Thank you for this posting, without it I would have not gotten the cleaner back together. At least not without breaking pieces. Greatly appreciated

Replacing smart mix plunger bissell proheat model 7901 procedure for proper installation

Hi,

Bissell 7901 proheat solution wont mix

The smart mix knob is connected to a piston that slides up and down into the automix assembly. This piston has come off of the smartmix knob and left the unit on water only setting. Sometimes the smart mix knob breaks on the bottom side letting loose the piston.

This can be a difficult repair. You have to unscrew the flow indicator window and remove the fan and screen(pay attention to how they come out, most people want to put the pointed end of the white screen down. It goes up.) Place a piece of 2X4, a book, something underneath the machine, between the rear wheels. This will lift the wheels into the air, and keep everything in place when you remove the hood. Take the 6 screws out that hold the hood and lens. As you remove the hood try to do it slowly and pay special attention to any hoses that might try to pull off with it. If you don't get those hoses back into the right place, the machine will not work. The piston will probably be stuck into the automix assembly when you get the hood off. It is a three inch black cylinder with an O ring on it. If you hold the hood upside down and place the cornered side of the piston into the corner of the housing between the knob and the solution chamber, you should be able to hook the winding on the knob with the piston and then turn the knob to screw the piston down into the windings. It won't lock into place, but hold it there well enough to put the machine back together correctly.

If you feel like you're forcing something when putting the hood back on, you probably are, so stop and check to make sure all the hoses are where they are supposed to be.

Good Luck

Removing the top of the 7901-1 Bissell Proheat

Unscrew the cap for the flow indicator, remove the 6 screws, the top will come off. When you put the top back on, make sure the piston is hooked on the smart mix knob(underneath the top cover) set the smart mix valve in the wtaer only setting, then put the top back on. Turn the smart mix valve to make sure it is turning like it should, then re-install the 6 screws and the flow indicator parts. (don't over tighten the screws)

If the mix valve knob is turning smoothly, then most likely the cap and valve for the sop bottle is bad. Also make sure that the seal is on the cap at the bottom of the bottle and not sitting in the hole.

Smart mix valve reassebly and alignment

Have the piston on the screw threads, put the knob on the water only setting, then after the piston is on, turn slightly so it doesn't come off, just before you put the housing all of the way down, turn the knob back to the water only setting and then push the top all of the way down. Turn the knob back and froth and if it turns smoothly, then it should be ok. If you put the top down and it is straight, the piston will go into the slot ok.

When you put the top back on, the smart mix vale should be on the clear water setting. Make sure that the piston is on the smart mix know under the top.

Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the
heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up
to it are not clogged. If water doesn't squirt, check for the seal at
the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole.
The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had
the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not
to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should
be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the
smart mix know. Pump is bad.

Rt. elevator arm replacement

Take off the top cover, then you can replace the elevators, they come both sides in a package, part #2000010. When you replace the top cover, check all tubes to make sure they are routed right so as to not pinch one when the cover is locked down. Also there is a piston that attaches to the bottom of the smart mix valve and that the smart mix knob is on the water setting, then put cover back in place and don't over tighten the screw.
