Surge protector's do not switch off any device, unless the surge protector is faulty itself. If the TV wasn't conected via a surge protector and a surge did come down the mains (often during thunderstorms) then it could cause a fault.
By the way a protector only stops a surge once, after that the protector should be scrapped. It's best to buy the one's with the light that lets you know the surge circuit is working, therefore.
So your set is faulty. Unless you have set some kind of timer on it by error.

It is a fault with your power supply module actually inside the tv...take it to a local service center or if its under warranty take it back. surge protectors help prevent issues like this occuring due to damage to the power supply from surges but not having one wont cause these problems unless it has recieved a surge.....in future i would use a surge protector on all your expensive appliances, surges and power fluctuations are very common in mains power i live near the mines and we have power problems all the time!! hope this helps, ben

When I turn on my Sony TV, ti stays on about 30 seconds then shuts off, What do you think is wrong?

Do a Power Reset.
1. Turn off TV.
2. Unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the TV remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. (If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.)
5. Turn on the TV.
If issue persists after doing the steps, reset the TV to factory default settings.
1. Turn on the TV.
2. Using the supplied remote, press and hold the UP arrow button.
3. While holding the UP arrow button press the POWER button on the TV itself.
4. When the TV goes off, release the POWER and UP arrow button.
5. The TV will turn on by itself and the initial setup screen will be displayed. Just follow the on-screen prompts to finish the setup.

The power on my tv keeps going on and off how can i fix it

Many Samsung LCD panels have a main 'power supply' circuit board, which relies on Capacitors.

If you're technically inclined, take the back off and inspect the cluster of capacitors near the power supply. If any of the capacitors look out of shape, too fat, or burnt at the solder joints, then you've found the fault.

From memory, the most common capacitor to fail, is the large 1000 uF one.

Good luck !

I had to unplug my tv today (actually the TV is plugged into a surge protector, so I unplugged the surge protector.) when I plugged the surge protector back in the TV wouldn't go on (acts as if its...

There should be a surge release button on the surge protector to bring the protector back to normal (should be red in color) Some surge protection devices have this option so just check if your s has it. If that is not the case than I think that you might have blown a fuse in your TV.Might just have to open it up and change the fuse within with the same ratings, but please be careful because do have high voltages so get an experienced technician to do this for you.
Good Luck.

Power surge hit my surge protector with my 'sony tv hooked to it.

Well, the power supply may be still damaged by the surge, what may happen is that when first surge happens the surge protector protect your TV by sacrifing itself but then the second surge comes along, since the protector already blown up then the surge will just come right through to the TV on the second surge. That is bad problem for the surge protector that sacrify itself but can only do it for ONE time.

TV turns off by itself

Thus the line connected to a surge protector or some kind of line protector. This can be consider.

Or if this is a crt type tv. This could be a fault on high voltage section. Horizontal output transistor or flyback. But check also for loose connection/solder crack. That clicking sound may be the relay in action.

hope i give some correct input.

TV is turning off by itself.

Your TV is going under protection mode,
I would recommend to take it to a qualified service center, the reason I'm saying this is because there could be a few part involved into this problem and could be more expensive for you to start replacing parts without no knowing the sourse of the problem.

Random turning off/on while watching tv

sounds like it could be a power issue. is the powercord on the back of the tv detachable? make sure its plugged in tightly. also if using a surge protector reset surge protector. if not using a surge protector try a different outlet. also if gfci outlet (has reset button on outlet itself) try resetting the outlet by pushing the reset button

Does the set make any sounds. DOes the front green led light or flash when you try to turn it on.. if not then it could be as simple as a fuse, if it does flash then it can be many problems
