I have had an Archos 605 WiFi for 2 years now and just since this spring I can't get it to connect to any computer with the USB cable that was delivered with it. I tried on a Mac, on Vista, XP, I can't get to connect the USB! I can only charge it when the message on the Archos pops up asking me if I want to switch to USB mode or only charge it. If I press "OK" to go into USB mode the Archos recognizes it, but nothing appears on the computer. Several people think this is a charging issue and say that we have to update the firmware, or connect via wifi. So here's the deal; -Connecting by WiFi doesn't link to the computer -If I wanted to update the Archos 605's firmware I'd have to first download the firmware on my pc, then transfer it to the Archos, right? Well that's the whole problem; It DOESN'T connect to the PC! I have contacted Archos to ask them and they said I should first try to change the cable, well where am I gonna find a cable that only connects to the Archos 605? If I order online it'll cost me a damn pretty penny! If anybody knows a way to remediate to this, or to find just a USB cable for cheap, I would be happy to share it with other people who have had the exact same problem with other Archos models.
You should keep your eye on the device after its been plugged to the PC it will give you 2 options "charge" or "usb" you ca not establish a connection without picking usb connection option on the Archos screen when it pops up. If you are doing so and problem still existed then i would recommend you to download the latest windows media player. Because it comes with new devices sync driver update.

I think the Archos 605 has a 2gb file limit, so the only option would be to split the avi.

if you are having technical problem with your archos 605 just do this connect your USB with your computer and your archos device will pop up on the screen asking you if you want to charge your device or enaable usb that will automatically appear if your computer doesen't reconise the device then switch it off and on again if doesen't work then i suggest you look it up on the archos manual which is located on your device. if that doent work then i think you may need to update your computer it must have windows Core dual processor if that don't work and your archos device doesent appear then i think you may need to update your computer with a service pack 2 installation cd
3. Copied update to root of archos drive and rebooted
4. Archoes installed the update and rebooted and came up to desktop again
5. reinstalled plugins (thank god I saved them) copied plug-in to root.
6. Back on the road again
i have xp professional it was working 2 days ago i downloaded tons of stuff now i the same computer can'T see it but not just my computer i tried on 3 different computers it sas usb is connected (buttons disabled) but computers doesn'T see it.. but it keeps on chrging itself !
