The left 2 slices will not engage to make toast after it was cleaned out, worked fine before it was cleaned.
Contact switch broken when you cleaned it? Replace that contact switch.
There could be two possible causes: the switch or the electromagnet that holds the bread carrier down. if the toaster operates (starts to toast) when you manually hold the lever down, then the switch is good and the problem is with the electromagnet. if it doesn't do anything when you hold the lever down then it is the switch. in either case you'll have to open up the toaster to see if something was knocked out of alignment, or possibly a large crumb or debris is fouling up the switch or preventing the magnet from engaging with its keeper

The solution I got from the FixYa team was: "Get a new toaster." Which is how I ended up with 4 new toasters that don't work. I'm glad I didn't PAY for THAT answer.

Inside your toaster there are eight heating element plates six in the center and one in left end and one in right end.
Just switch on the toaster without any bread at maximum time and visualy inspect to see which side is becoming red and which not. Then you need to replace the element plates you see that they don't become red.
Remember that the two in center are the same called "CENTER" and the other two on ends are the same called "END"
They can easily be removed if you remove the bottom panel.
