SOURCE: There is a problem with shutter curtain.

Hi Janice, you really should take your camera in to a repair shop. That work should be done by a pro because you might get it right...and you might get it wrong. If your wrong, then you may as well toss it out the window.
If it were mine, I would attempt to push them back into place with a q-tip.
You have to remember though...why did they come apart in the first place? Is your camera missing a screw, and when you got them back in place (if you get them back in place), would it just happen again?
That's why you should take it to a pro. They will be able to fix why it happened in the first place. Hope this helps.

Shutter Curtain needs to be replaced.
There are 2 of them. Usually one goes out of position and brakes.

SOURCE: Film Advance Lever and Shutter Curtain

If the film advance lever is "flopping" back and forth, the problem is most likely a jammed advance mechanism inside. The shutter is cocked *mechanically* and released the same way--no battery power is needed. One old trick you could try to release things is to push the rewind button on the bottom of the camera.*sometimes* it will free up the mechanism enough to unjam.

SOURCE: I have a jammed shutter on my Minolta 400si SLR.

With the shutter curtain out of place the camera will not function. If it is only out a little you may be able to persuade the shutter blades to fall back into position. If you bend them, or if they are out of the proper tracks then the camera will have to be sent to a repair service for repair.

SOURCE: I have a second hand canon EOS 600 that I have had

It's not a DIY repair and is very common to many SLR's. The only suprise with your twenty year old camera is that it didn't happen sooner. The substance you can see is a symptom and not the cause which is deeper into the camera.

The cause is actually sticky shutter release magnets; over time internal lubricants from when the camera was manufactured have migrated onto the magnets and then partially dried out.

A camera repair technician usually addresses this as part of a standard CLA service (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) which all SLR's should periodically undergo.

Although the EOS 600 was one of Canon's cheaper consumer range models (designed and built on their behalf by Kodak) it's far better than models like the EOS 300, but don't be surprised if some camera repair technicians refuse to do the work: there's a lot of delicate and twenty-year fragile plastic and electronic parts in there, most are irreplaceable if broken during repair and so many repairers will either refuse or insist that you sign a disclaimer. As a consumer SLR they EOS 600 was really designed to be a non-repairable model which would be discarded when broken or replaced entirely whilst under warranty. Many repairers will attach special conditions to the warranty on their work. Your best bet is to find a Canon specialist, if you're in the UK I can highly recommend Colchester Camera Repair Service.

A CLA will cost far more than the camera is worth, but if you decide to buy a used replacement it's also unlikely to have been serviced. But given that you can pick them up for free or next to nothing that may still be a better option for you if you fancy a gamble. Conversely, a full CLA will ensure that your camera has the best chance of working correctly for a few more years and will usually include replacement of any decaying gooey foam light seals (usually a chargeable extra, but most do it for free when I point out that I could take the job elsewhere).

In calculating whether to invest in a near-worthless camera, consider how much more you'll need to spend to find a better, freshly serviced model which will do the same job. Often the investment is worthwhile, but if you can get a better model at low cost/free (FreeCycle/Freegle) to have serviced in it's place it may be the better choice. EOS triple gigit models are consumer models, EOS double digit models are enthusiast/pro models and EOS single digit models are the top-spec models built for full professional use. You won't get a single digit model for peanuts but the double digit models don't go for much.

I hope that I've given you sufficient information on what to do next and that you're able to get shooting again soon. All I ask in return is that you take a moment to rate my answer.

I took it to get the film developed and not one of my pics turned out.. is there anything i can do to fix this problem..?

1) With no film in the camera, take out the lens.
2) Open the back cover and aim the camera towards light source ( not the Sun) and trip the shutter at the different shutter speeds while looking at the shutter curtains.
3) If you see the light, the shutter is running.
4) If the shutter is running, film might not be threaded properly to the film take up reel.

Touched the shutter curtains

Yes it will have an affect on your shooting. The curtains will not operate correclty if they are opening and closing at different speeds and / or not closing or opening completely. Your film will expose at different levels, and you will not get a correctly composed shot. You could try to coax the curtain back into place by GENTLY rubbing it with a Q-tip in the direction it is supposed to go. But those things are fragile and can be fickle. Your best bet is to take it to a shop.

Sticky shutter blades

Canon EOS cameras manufactured in the late 1980s to early 1990s have an internal foam bumper for the shutter curtain which deteriorates with time, breaking down into an oily black tar. The tar oozes down and gets onto the shutter blades, causing them to stick. This results in the shutter either failing to open altogether or opening too slowly, resulting in blank or unexposed photographs.
cleaning procedure. Take a cotton swab and put a tiny bit of isopropyl alcohol or lighter fluid on it. Don’t drench it - you just want it slightly moist. Rub the tip of the swab on the oily patch, back and forth extremely lightly. You don’t want to apply any pressure, as the shutter curtain is fragile and easily bent and destroyed. Keep lightly rubbing the swab back and forth until the oil is entirely gone. Alcohol is a weaker solvent and so it may take a minute or two of gentle movement to dissolve the oil. Remember to do both sides of the shutter - you’ll have to move the mirror upwards to get the inner side, so don’t get any fingerprints on it. The easiest way to do this is to set the camera into mirror lockup mode (assuming your camera has the ability) and starting the self-timer.
That should fix the camera for the time being. Of course, the foam bumper is still there and continuing to degrade, so you’ll have to do this cleaning every now and again unless you pay to have it replaced. How often depends on your camera. Mine has gone for a year since the last cleaning without problems.

Picture nearly all black

Lets see if the shutter curtains are opening properly : set to B and open the film back of the camera. Now release shutter and see if the first s. curtain has opened nicely and swiftly. Then release the second s. curtain and again see if you get proper closing of the curtain. If the shutter curtains ( usually just one misbehaves ) is slow to close then the shutter unit needs looking at . ( btw no point pouring liquids like benzine etc. into the shutter curtain are ... will make things worse ).

AE-1 Didn't Take Pics

Possibly the film did not go through the camera. If it did, the problem may be the 2nd(or closing)curtain magnet on the bottom of the camera. When the magnet is working the closing curtain of the shutter is held back 1 to 1000 miliseconds-depending on the shutter speed selected by you. 1ms=1/1000 sec. 1000ms=1 sec. You can tell by 1. removing the lens 2.setting the shutter speed to the "B" setting 3. opening the film door and looking through the camera 4. releasing or firing the camera and keeping pressure on the release button. If the magnet is working, the shutter will stay open as long as the release button is kept pressed down. The closing curtain will close as soon as the release button is released. When the magnet fails, both curtains travel across the film plane together and no exposure is made. Sometimes there is corrosion on the magnet where the wires connect. Sometimes there is some foreign substance or object that interferes with the face of the metal unit that attaches to the magnet when the camera is wound. Sometimes the magnet just fails and needs to be replaced. If the magnet checks out OK the problem may be in the circuits that control the release of the magnet. If this is the problem, the camera needs to be looked at by a competent repair shop. Just so you know, new parts are getting hard to come by, but there are tons of used cameras around that parts can taken from. Hope this helps.
