My fan only turns very slowly , moving very little air.
These fans can be rebuilt! Like many others, our fan died after being placed in the center of the stove top. I took the two halves of the fan body apart, and scraped the heat sink compound off either side of the power plate. I then applied CPU heat sink compound that can be found at any computer or electronics store liberally to either side, and put it back together. The fan spins like new, spread the word!
Ths Nathan , the compound did the job. It took more than one fire and I also clean the bottom part of the fan. I don''t the last time she was turning so fast. I have been using this fan for 5 years
Ok the compound did work for a couple weeks. The fan stopped working and I had to replace the motor ''Home hardware'' 16,00 . Very easy to install
Really got all the old compound off and I mean all of it, tested on stove top and it took off instantly. Thanks for the heads up, I love to fix things!
I cleaned the old compund thorougly and put new one on, but it didn't work Do you think it is the peltier element, since it spins slowly now and then?

Send me its technical description. It may be due to weak capacitor. Replace it. First check that it is rotating freely by free hand(without electric supply).
There is no capacitor, just a motor and a peltier device. The manufacturer does not give details of voltage to expect so difficult to determine what is wrong
Hi I had 3 ecco fans installed 2 yrs ago & just got a call to say 1 fan has stopped working.
On removal of fan I checked with a 12volt battery & it worked . So I have 2 fans still running & 1 fan that works when put on a battery . What do I need to look at next ? I thought all would be wired up to the same system. PLEASE HELP !

Blow off the dust, and spray with WD40. Don't forget WD40 is flamable!
If the fan is working from a battery then it will be the Thermoelectric generator (TEG)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelec...
These are available online and not very expensive.
Do not just spray it with WD40 !!
You will need to carefully disassemble it, clean everything carefully and reassemble with the new TEG and thermal paste (easy to buy from a computer repair shot)
NB the TEG must be installed the correct way. It has a "hot side" and a "cold side" usually there is writing on it to help you identify which is which. if in doubt mount it in the same orientation as the previous TEG was mounted.https://customthermoelectric.com/tech-in...

I had the same problem, Ecofan 800 Original was moving slowly.
I tested the motor with a 9V battery to find it was still functional.
I separated the two halves, cleaned off the old heatsink compound and reapplied new compound.
Placed the fan on the stove and it was as good as new!
Thanks!
Fan just quit, replaced motor in early spring so figured it was heat sink. Tested motor with AA battery, worked well. Took fan apart, cleaned heat sink with damp towel, put back together. Works like new again. No cost other than 10 mins of time. Thanks
Cut the wire and hook it up to a dc battery(aa, c or d) and if your fan works it is the
thermoelectric TEG module.
i bought mine off ebay from thermalenterprises. hooked it up and it worked perfect. the are 17-25 bucks
depending on what model you have.
Mine also stopped so I took the 2 halves apart (black pieces) cleaned the parts, blew out some dust, put it all back together, and right now am watching it spin away, thanks to Nathan's solution.

Usually answered in minutes!
My fan used to turn fast...now barely moves with a hot fire in the stove.
It could be dust/dirt accumulation, but the fan blades move easily when pushed.
Note that this fan is thermoelectric...no external power
I now have two ecofans 802 that are less than a year old. One was sent back to the manufacturer because it slowed down after a few months. They sent me back a "remanufactured" replacement. It also slowed down after a short period and the other fan is also slowing down, I have to give them both a "tap" to get them started but even then they turn slow. Not sure if it's a poor quality product but would sure like to have solution to the problem. I don't see keep sending them back to the manufacturer as acceptable.
2 blade ecofan, blades moving slowly at higher temps, metal strip on bottom curling. have wiped off blades and dental flossed the spinning bar for blades.
same problem. Ecofan rep said lifespan is only 3-5 years! I'm tring to fine thermoelectric module online to replace and also motor. Big bucks for such a short lifespan!!
it's a poor product which doesn't seem to last beyond the one year warranty...i have the same problem after about one winter...slow spin..pretty expensive for one year.
my ecfo has stopped working are there replacement parts out there?
My 802 was going on its 3rd winter (only gets used a few months a year in
Georgia) and its blade spins only slowly or not at all with raging fire in woodstove. I emailed the manufacturer and they (he) suspected the motor was going bad. He gave me no details yet regarding troubleshooting specs.
It can only be the motor or the peltier power module. Without specifications I can't zero in on the failing component. Manufacturer said there were spare parts but did not have the presence of mind to include the "spare parts" list with prices. Caframo should do better than this based on the price of these fans. Pretty poor longevity
Mine's the 3-blade one. Same problem, after 3 years or so. I'll ask them to remove the "Made in Canada" sticker - might as well make them in China if they're this crappy...
mine worked great for 2 years. now just sits there. I should have just bought another cord of wood instead.
same problem, 2 years old. Expensive junk
same problem here. pretty dissapointed as it was quite pricey to only last a year and a half.
I am "late" to the party but my Ecofan of only 4 months was not working correctly either. I had to "hand start" it. I am glad I found this because I cleaned it and I hope I can get the rest of the winter out of it. Next time? I am going for the cheap Chinese knock-off.....Oh well.
Well, our ecofan lasted well over ten years maybe close to 15 so maybe justified to buy another but more recent purchasers seem to have less success
Ours has been going strong for 2nd winter... maybe detecting a very slight squeak, thinking it may need lubrication? Looking for suggestions... Do have a nice penetrating oil from www.bluecreeper.com that has neat needle applicator.
