How can I find out where my sharp lc40f22e was made so I can put the code in for my YouView box

It may be a problem of power supply, if your drive does not have option for external power supply - get a powered USB hub, and plug your drive thru it.

You might need to reset the remote control if the codes don't work.

If you've got the BT YouView remote that came with the box (with the 'BT Vision' button on it), hold down the two buttons either side of '0', whilst also holding down the power button for around 5 seconds. The blue light on the remote should flash three times to confirm it's successfully reset.

If you've got the retail YouView remote (with the 'TV' and 'PVR' buttons on it), press and hold the 'TV' button and the red coloured button at the same time for 5 seconds. The 'TV' and 'PVR' buttons should flash red 3 times to confirm.

Try your codes again after. I believe 4483 is the code in the setup guide.

Have a look at the troubleshooting pages. Something is said about having to accept the legal terms, if forgotten you will not be able to use On Demand and Search features.
