Unless you wrote down the mother board p/n code,hardrive p/n code and the p/n code on the case you really can't tell if its the same.also if you sold it as is you don't have to refund.you can try to flash the bios or switch the ram sticks out.if none of this works then it sounds like the buyer switched parts or give you back a broken one.you can try to boot the harddrive on a different comp and see if it works or has the same users on it.

Although there's really no way to know if he's scamming you or if it was dropped in shipping it is quite possible it wasn't shut down completely before shipping and the battery died in transit. If this happened it may simply be stuck in a power cycle.
Ask the buyer to unplug the power and remove the battery. Have hime hold the power button down for 30 seconds with the battery out and ac disconnected then have him put the battery back in and turn it back on.
If it was stuck in a power cycle this should fix it, if not we can try to diagnose it further once you have it back.
