LG 42in LCD Television - turning unit off

Hi, Have just bought a 42in LG lcd tv, but we cannot figure out how to turn the tv from standby to off. When we turn off the power button, the red standby light appears and we would like to be able to turn the power off completely

Our LG tv turns itself off intermittently and even when we turn it back on, it turns itself off again. We have checked every setting and timer that we can find but without success. Any help? Thanks.

The amount of standyby power consumtion is minimal. The only way to turn it off completly is to disconnect the power from the TV. This will however increase your start up time when you want to use the TV.

I have an LG 17LX1R LCD TV/monitor that won't go on. The power light on the TV flashed red . . . but that's it.

My LG 17LX1R had a almost the same problem. Red standby went to green for 1-2 seconds then back to red standy. Turned out to be bad caps on the power supply board. Yours is definately going to need to be opened up. Not a generic fix. You gotta ask yourself if its worth fiixing a 6-7 year old LCD tv with limited LCD life. New ones can be had for about $130-150.

My olevia 42in not getting power is it the power supply thats going out sometime it turns on

Look at the power supply first; look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc.

This set has a modification that needs to be done. It will also start turning on by itself and changing channels rapidly. It's two weeks old. Take it back to the Retailer or if that is not an option contact LG at 1-800-243-0000 to get a local servicer in your area.
