Driver problem!!!! hellomy note book is dell inspiron 6400 , the operating system recomeded is windows xp , for technical reasons related to the job am using the system for i changed the operating system to windows 2000 the problem is that the compatiable drivers on DELL driver & support doesn't contain windows 2000 drivers!!!! so i've a problem with USB ,PCI device & BASE SYSTEM DEVICE please give me a hand so as to exceed this problem ASAP yours bastami

there is no issue with hardware, the thing one of your program is running continuously, that's why u r note book is not rebooting.

Just go to run and tpye command as "msconfig" here you can find the startup, disable all program with are running in startup and kiill all services with are not related to windows os by, service tab in this windows, here you need to click on hide Microsoft service to avoid to stop Microsoft services.

after that your Dell inspiron 1100 note book not rebooted, you need to do reinstall the operating system and install all new drivers. you can download drivers from dell.com or any third party websites, for more info

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model laptop, better still type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the driver for your Windows operating system.

1. The network card drivers are missing
2. The network card is disabled
3. Windows operating system is faulty
4. The network card is faulty

try going to dell.com. Go to support/downloads and look for your product i.e inspiron 6400. Go to download drivers and choose operating system xp. then the rest is straight forward (look for your network adapter name)...pls note: i cant remember exactly where to go on the website but its under support. U should get u to the downloads page without any difficulty.
OR if u hav the Drivers and Utilities cd, use that to reinstall the device driver.

The most laptop now comming with recovery software loaded on one of their disk partition (generally D: drive). So it will help you to get back all sofware and driver as it was issued by company.
So you can use this utility to get back your OS and drivers.

If this is not the case with you. then you should go the dell website, navigate the drivers and downloads section and enter your service tag no (not model no.) and then it will give you all the supported drivers for you laptop. Download as per your requirement. And install them.
