Can't get the tape to eject. Any suggestions? It makes a noide like it will eject, you can start to see the tape, then it pulls the tape back in right away.
The tape is caught in the pulley system. It happens on the older players at work. You can eject the tape manually to get it out but you will have to break it to do that. Best to replace it with a new one. If it is under warrenty, get it replaced.

Canon GL1 was working fine last night, now it want do ANYTHING today, want power up or anything, want even eject tape when I push eject button. Any suggestions?
remove battery start over repeat constantly till tape comes out. very tedius but be patient it will take a few times. once tape is out DONT PUT IT BACK IN !!!! try other tape first
I had the same problem and I switched to smaller tapes. I had been using the 120 minute tapes. It seemed like the tape would lock up after a short while with the larger tapes.
Did the tape go all the way in? If it didn't make it all the way in, try lightly pushing on both ends of the tape to even it out if it is crooked inside the tape slot. If it did go all the way in, and won't release at all, try pressing down on the top of the tape in the slot. Make sure it is evenly positioned in the tape holder.
If it started to come out, but didn't make it all the way out, try doing the same as before by pushing on both ends of the tape to even it out or get it further in to try ejecting again.
I believe that you have a problem where the tape is not being taken completely back into the cassette housing. Either the tape is bad and jammed or the idler is slipping. As it starts to eject pressure is put on the eject mechanism and it stops and reverses (as it is suppose to) to keep from damaging the camcorder. Unless you are familiar with camcorder repair you could do more harm than good forcing the unit open or trying to get the tape out. You should take it to a repair shop and let an expert take care of it. It shouldn't cost much to remove the tape and check for damage. Perhaps $50 to $100 US. Good luck.
