We have a problem with closed captioning, which I need as I am hearing impaired. It seems to disappear intermittently particularly during recorded programs. We have learned that by pausing or backing up we can retrieve it. Is the problem with our Samsung TV or with our Page HDDVR?

On some models of DVR, you need to configure this on the DVR and it's a bit strange how it's done in some cases. Here is an example:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/22699-4-comcast-close-captions

If yours works the same way then it should be a simple fix, if not then I would suggest calling your cable or satellite provider and asking them how it works on their equipment.

If you rely on the TV to provide the CC then it can be unreliable as you are describing.

There is a voice over on my tv which tells me everything that the characters are doing during my show, how do i change it

This feature should be on your remote somewhere. Probably CC for closed caption. There may be a setting for visually impaired under that as well as hearing impaired.

How can i keep captions from disappearing when i record a show?

closed captions are not actually part of the video you are seeing but are inserted later in the sequence--no way I know of to record them for whatever reason you might want to do this.

This is a link to both the quick start guide and the full manual for download. http://westinghouse.manuals365.com/HDTV/SK-40H590D.html

I am not sure that this particular function can be set as default however, you may have to set up Closed Captions every time you insert a DVD/VHS.

How do I get closed captioning on a Samsung TV model TXJ2754?

Hello

Your TV displays the closed captions that are broadcast with some

television shows. These captions are usually subtitles for the hearing

impaired or language translations. All VCRs record the closed caption

signal and most pre-recorded commercial video tapes provide closed

captions. Check for the closed caption symbol in your television

schedule and on the tape's packaging: .

1 Press MENU repeatedly until you see the Setup menu. Press CH
to select "Caption."

2 Press VOL+ to open the Closed Caption menu.

3 Press VOL + to turn closed captioning on.

Misspellings and odd characters can occur in captioning. Also, there may be a

captioning delay after changing channels. Neither situation is a TV malfunction.

4 Press CH to highlight "Mode." Press - VOL or VOL + to choose

"Capt." (captions) or "Text." In caption mode, captions appear and

cover a small portion of the picture. In text mode, information unrelated

to the program, such as news reports, are displayed and
often cover a large portion of the screen.

5 If you wish, use CH , CH , or VOL + to change the captioning

channel or field. Then, press DISPLAY to return to normal viewing.

Different channels and fields display different information, such as additional
languages or supplemental information

Cannot turn CC off.

Features preferences
Caption service
This allows you to select the Closed Captions service levels of analog
broadcasting to be displayed.
Closed Captioning allows you to read the voice content of television
programs on the TV screen. Designed to help the hearing impaired, this
feature uses on-screen ‘text boxes’ to show dialogue and conversations
while the TV program is in progress. Captions will appear on the screen
during captioned broadcasts.
& Select Captions service.
é Press the cursor right.
“ Select the desired Caption service:
• CC 1, 2, 3 or 4
Dialogue (and descriptions) for the action on the captioned TV program
shows on screen.
Usually CC 1 is the most used. CC 2 may be used for alternate languages
if they are being transmitted.
• T 1, 2, 3 or 4
Often used for channel guide, schedules, bulletin board information for
Closed Captions programs, news, weather informations or stock market
reports.
Not all Caption services are necessarily being used by a TV channel during
the transmission of a Closed Caption program.

Features menu
& Select Features in the TV Settings menu.
é Press the cursor right to enter the Features menu.
“ Select the menu items with the cursor up/down and adjust the settings
with the cursor left/right.
Closed captions
This displays the transmitted CC- or CS-text on the screen according to
your chosen CC or CS service in the Setup, Features preferences menu,
This text can either be permanently displayed (assuming that the
service is available in the broadcast) or only when mute is active.
& Press the cursor right after having selected Closed captions.
é Select On, Off or On during mute.

Recording with closed caption

Carl,
Better late than.. I think that the Polo can record the encoded closed captioning onto the HDD, but you have to have a CC equipped television to display the captioning.
The newer Magnavox and Philips recorders sold at Walmart record the captioning, and have the capability to display it even on sets without the built in CC decoder depending upon your recording settings. If you get a digital converter box and connect that as the source to your Polo, you can record CC displayed on the screen if you want.
