Sorry, ribbed side against drum. Feel the ribs on the wheel on the back wheel on the motor shaft. Ribbed side against the drum, wrap the belt around that motor wheel from the left, pull the tension wheel all the way back from left to right and catch the right side of the belt as it loops under the motor wheel.

After the the tension wheel is set, the belt should resemble a distorted "S" shape.

It is possible that the motor start/run capacitor has failed, rendering the motor unable to get going. The capacitor will look something like this

Maytag Performa PYE2200AYW drum turns until I put clothes in it, then it slows and stops.

You have the belt on wrong. There is a side with numbers or writing on it and ribbed side like treads. The tread side should be facing down, making contact with the drum. If the other side is touching the drum then whenever clothes are put in the belt will slip causing the drum not to

Maytag Performa eletric dryer not heating. Model no# pdet920ayw. What could be the problem?

This is a pretty simple dryer. Unplug it and pop the top then remove the front. The heater and limits are all mounted on the lower left hand side on the heating element.

While you is in there do a good cleanup and oil the rollers and idler. Use zoomspout oil.
Replace the belt if she looks worn out.

I have a maytag performa dryer model #pdet920ayw and when i turn it on it squeels.

Below are some links, courtesy of www.repairclinic.com, that will assist you in diagnosing/repair of your dryer. You may have to enter your model number in the search box to access some of the information.

Below is a parts breakdown/disassembly procedure for your dryer.

The most common cause of a squeal is the drum roller, of which there are 2. It is usually a good idea to replace both rollers, roller shafts and drum belt at the same time, as they have a tendency to wear at the same rate. You must also use the proper lubricant on the roller shafts, (Syl-Glide), or you will have a recurrence of the squeal.

1. Drum Roller Image

If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

Maytag Performa PYE G2200 gas dryer, the dryer seems to turn on but the drum will not turn.

Based on the information provided, it sounds like a broken drum belt is at fault. Below is an illustration of the drum belt.

Here is a parts/disassembly diagram:

Here is a belt installation diagram:
Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

The belt is a 341241, a pretty standard belt. To install it you must get the front panel off. Do this by using a putty knife: 549402b.jpgUse this hady DRYER BELT ROUTING guide
