Thanks for the suggestion. I had already checked the coils and they are perfectly clean. Fridge is only 2 years old. I can feel the fan blowing in the freezer compartment but not the fridge. Is there anything else I should check?

Clean the coil behind the fridge or under the fridge (where ever they are) and make sure both fans are running, the one in the freezer and the one underneath or you may need freon

My Estate by Whirlpool freezer coils freeze up and both the freezer and lower compartments won't stay cold. I can manually thaw the freezer and it works ok for a few days then does it again

You have a problem with the automatic defrost cycle, it is typically the defrost control, which is located in the compartment next to the thermostat or cold control. If you send me your entire model number from the tag on the inside I can get you the part number needed.

The freezer is working just fine but the refrigerator is not cold at all

CHECK THE FREEZER FAN MAKE SURE ITS RUNNING AND IF THE BACK WALL OF THE FREEZER IS FROSTED UP YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. I ONCE FOUND SOMETHING FELL BEHIND THE BASKET SO THE DOOR DIDNT SHUT ALL THE WAY, CHECK THIS AS WELL

Refrigerator and freezer are not cool enough. Cleaned coils,has enough space between walls.etc.

Most likely problem is the internal fan. The fan draws air across the cooling coils and blows it into the freezer and refrigerator compartments. If it malfunctions, there's nothing to move the cold air and both sides of the unit get warm.

My 4 yr old Whirlpool freezer has never been cold enough

That duct is where the refrigerator gets its cold air from. Removing the plastic part will not affect the freezer. The thermostat is the only control for the compressor. If it doesn't run long enough, it won't be cool enough. Try making the freezer colder with it first. If that doesn't solve the problem, then have it serviced by a professional.
