After changing a blown oven light, the clock works but nothing else turns on, including the fan, light, microwave

I have a Whirlpool microwave hood combination, model YMH1141XM. After changing a blown cooktop light, the clock works but nothing else turns on, including the fan, light, microwave. When I changed the light it popped and I smelled a burnt smell. We have replaced the bulb, and also the 20A fuse inside the curcuit board, but it still won't turn on anything other than the clock. Any ideas?

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Hood light & exhaust fan not working

You have no power to the unit. Breaker is out or the hot wires into the hood has come apart. The wires coming into the unit usually terminated in a junction box next to the fan housing.
Teas it for power an/or reset breaker.

No electricity Clock is off nothing works

Plug something else into the outlet and see if the device works if it doesn't then reset the breakers. If the other device does work then the microwave is bad and needs replacement.

The fan will not stop running, says locked

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

If it's still running, is it the hood vent exhaust fan (which you can normally turn on and off manually) or the internal cooling fan (which normally comes on automatically whenever you microwave)?

Does not heat food

It could be 3 problems. 1. the part that spits out the microwaves needs replacement, door hinge switch is broken, or circuit board need replacement. First check with Whirlpool and see if it is under warranty still. Call a repair man. See www.repairclinic.com .

No door lights, vent fan or microwave

That's what I thought.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
