My answer for you is try cleaning the bottom part of your disk using a damp cloth then let the disk dry before puting it back in the system and if that does not work maybe you are not using the right disk for the right system

9 out of 10 times when the fat ps2 cant/wont read disk its the cd tray needs to be adjusted.
I would suggest opening up the ps2 and cleaning the console with Qtips and rubing alcohol. if the laser will wont read. go to youtube.com type in fix my ps2 laser. you will watch a video on how to adjust your cd tray.
The reason for this issue is if the laser is to close or to far from the cd the laser cant read the cd.

the worse problem u can come across is the laser 100% failed. which is rare but you can buy a new/used working laser on ebay.com or google it. the laser will have the model on it you want to make sure you get the correct model. otherwise it wont work.
