SOURCE: I just went to start up my older model McLane gas

i would check the thread where your plug screws in it can be fixed with what they call a helicoil thread repair kit hope this helps.

O-kay engine and motor are the same. I'll have to do some checking on this one and I'll get back to you.

Was it packed with grease when you took it apart??? If there are gears there lubricate yes! Good Luck..

Hi Brian
Take the carb to your local small engine shop and tell them that you have the Briggs 3.5 hp engine with this carb...he can fix you up with a carb rebuild kit

Briggs & Stratton 60200 series engine intake valve tar
I'm having the exact same problem with a Briggs & Stratton 80202 engine on my Mclane reel mower. I cleaned out the valves and cylinder head, put it back together and it runs nicely. I ran it for about a half hour then turned it off to adjust the blade. A couple hours later I went to start it and no compression. The Intake valve is stuck open with gum from running it for a half hour! The can of gas I have is less than a month old. I'm going to try a different brand of gas.
