Many engines today either have no drain, or a drain that you cannot get to because of the way the engine is fitted, just buy a syringe to suck the oil out, there are plenty available made to do just this job.

SOURCE: oil appearing at exhaust, smokey, briggs and stratton lawm mower.

You will need to replace or clean the air filter, and probably the spark plug. Do not operate the mower for some hours to allow the oil drain (inside the engine). Check oil level and fill it if necessary. Some oil remaining in the exhaust should be burnt next time the lawnmower operates. You will see smoke at the beginning, that will be normal (burnt oil). Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Need to know where oil

I have the same model...... it should be just underneath the unit.... it will look like a square head recessed. I used the ratchet set extension and it fit just right. I literally had to tilt the darn thing upside down to find it. Then once it was loosen a bit, I put the machine upright on the wheels again, and slip a plastic pan underneath as I finished unscrewing the oil plug, Out came the black goo.

Open the spot where you put the oil in.Now turn the mower so that is comes out the hole it went in.It can be messy so use a large bucket.

Hi stnstomper...

Look under the mower for a square plug or allen wrench type plug, this will be your oil drain for the motor.
Some of Briggs & Stratton motors do not have an oil drain plug...
If you do not have an oil drain plug then you will have to run the mower to get it warm, then remove the oil fill plug and tip the mower towards the oil fill plug to drain out the oil thru the fill plug hole.

I have briggs and stratton powered mower with the 18.5 v-twin ohv intek engine modle 407777 type 0121-E5 CODE 000512ZYG MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY CRANKCASE IS FULL OFA GAS OIL MIXTURE THE OIL FILTER ALSO...

When the float in the carb sticks, it allows fuel to drain into the cylinder, that runs pass the rings into the crankcase. When the crankcase is full the pistons cannot go down, and the starter won't turn the engine. Drain all the oil gas mixture, and refill with proper oil. Replace float, needle and seat in the carb bowl. Throughly clean fuel passages, and bowl. If motor won't turn, remove spark plug and turn over engine a few times to remove gas oil mixture from the cylinder too.

I have a Troy-Built Series 550 mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. I cannot find the drain plug. Is there a good diagram available?

Most professional shops no longer drain the oil through a drain plug because of all the covers under the engine. With your Briggs and Stratton engine, the best way is to drain through the dipstick. You can purchase a suction device to **** out the oil, or you can drain it. To drain, place you mower on the tailgate of your truck, or on the picnic table. Grab a drain bucket, remove the dipstick and tilt the handle to the ground. The spark plug should be pointed straight up into the air. Might be a good idea to do a test run before removing the dipstick, so you will know exactly where to hold the bucket. All 20 ounces of oil will drain through the dipstick in about a minute if the engine has been warmed up. Refill with a good quality SAE HD30 weight motor oil. Remember...only 20 ounces. Check the oil level after filling before you start the engine.
Good luck.

I have a troy bilt mower with a briggs & stratton engine. How do I change the oil?

There should be a drain plug on the underside of the mower deck. Raise that side of deck, remove the plug and drain the oil. Replace the plug and add new oil. Hope this helped.
