How to replace pattern selector wheel on Elna 62 sewing machine

  • Carolyn Rogers Aug 14, 2019

Hi alan wade, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add a description of your model in the comment box? Is it a Star Series, blue top, white body made by Tavaro?

Can't get a manual for you but here's how to wind a bobbin.
Guide your thread from the spool holder to the bobbin thread tension device on the top left side of the machine.(That's the round assembly that is about 1/2 inch in diameter with a screw in the center of it.) Pull the thread in the front and wrap it to the back and continue towards the bobbin winder on the right side top. Wrap thread around the bobbin, place the bobbin on the spindle sticking up. Release the handwheel(either by pulling out on the center of the wheel or twisting on the center of the wheel). Press on the foot control. It should stop winding when it is full.
To thread the machine
all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way. Flat side to the back and it threads front to back

If the fly wheel is going around then the clutch isn't disengaged to wind the bobbin, you need to pull out the flywheel on your model to disengage the clutch for bobbin winding.

tally_girl_59.jpg
Take thread from thread spool across to bobbin winder thread guide, then back to bobbin and thread the tail through the hole on top of the bobbin. Place bobbin onto spindle on top of machine and then push it against the stop to engage the bobbin winding motor. HOld the thread tail up and start winding slowly until the bobbin core has been covered including the starting point. Stop and trim off the thread tail with scissors. COntinue winding bobbin and give the thread a nudge if needed to wind evening top middle and bottom of the bobbin. A good smooth wind is important. Also don't wind at full speed and keep an eye on the thread reel that the thread is coming off, you don't want it bouncing around as this will **** the thread and stretch then relax it affecting your bobbin wind.

Obviously if you know this and the bobbin winding mechanisim is just not working, then it will need a service/replacement by an Elna repair person.

My Elna 62C doesn't run. The light works but nothing happens when I press the pedal. Does that mean the motor is bad? Or is it electrical?

There is insufficient information. Does the needle move when you turn the hand wheel. If it doesn't, the fly wheel has been disengaged. (This lets you wind a bobbin. However, if the bobbin winder pin has been returned to the left position, the winder isn't engaged.) This is controlled by the knob in the center of the hand wheel. Hold the hand wheel with one hand and turn the knob towards the back of the sewing machine.

If the fly wheel is engaged, then the problem could be the motor or the pedal rheostat. You might try to find a new compatible foot control first, https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/elna-star-62-sewing-machine-parts.aspx?index=1 . The motor is no longer available.

I hope this helps.

My foot pedal doesn't work. Sometimes will start if I manually turn wheel.

Bet the friction drive is worn, if this is a 62 air electronic mine did the same. Its like a slipping clutch. Can you check the model number? It will be on the machines id plate on right side near power plug socket. 62 is the SU. You may find some help from fellow Elna owners at the group called,Elna Heirlooms in groups at yahoo dot com, I have seen othets discuss a way to roughen up the outside of the drive wheel with sandpaper.

I have an elna 7000 idon`t know how to change the programes from A TO B C D

YOu can dowload a manual for the Elna 7000 from here http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_instruction_manuals/Elna7000.pdf

However, I'm not sure what you actually mean, do you mean how to program it to stitch out letters?

If so, the instructions for this are on page 28tally_girl_58.jpg Each stitch that shows up on the selector bars at the top has a number so to choose it, you just type in the appropraite number using the 0-9 keyboard, then press the "select pattern" key. The top selector bars turn so you can see the different range of stitches but the A B C D part doesnt come into actually chosing a stitch.

On my Elna SU ,The front white top selector is jammed

Have you turned the stitch width and stitch length selectors back to zero each before trying to change the stitch selector wheel? Really important to always do this.

Have you resolved this issue now?
