Question about Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver

1 Answer

Onkyo tx-sr606 turns off during loud dvd sounds.

The Blu Ray player is hooked up via HDMI. The wierd thing is, this only happens during Blu Ray playback, not on Tv, or stereo or anything else. (I can play those as loud as I want) It automatically changes to the DVD Multichannel mode, so that might have something to do with it. Its frustrating, because I lose the picture sound and everything as it is all passing through the reciever. Anyone else have this problem?

It was definitely NOT at defective unit. I emailed Onkyo and they said to change the Audio Output settings of the Blu Ray Setup from PCM to Bitstream. (I have a Samsung 1500 Blu Ray Player) The only problem is there are two Bitstream settings: Bitstream Re Encode and Bitstream Audiophile. I tried Audiophile firs; it turned off the receiver in the same loud spot on the DVD as when it was on PCM. I then turned it to Bitstream Re Encode and Wa La! I cranked the **** out of it and it blasted right through places where it would normally kick off the entire unit. Thanks Onkyo!

It sounds like you have a defective unit. I would contact the manufacturer and ask to RMA it.

I think this one is for the Onkyo wizards:

I would write them via email here:

However I did find this 2 page hookup manual with nice notes at link listed below that may help you solve the mystery:

(seems you may have to assign the digital input)

http://filedepot.onkyousa.com/Files/QuickHookup/TX-SR606_QSS_En_A.pdf?CFID=918117&CFTOKEN=40624545&jsessionid=f0306ea8a0d68bb60a49102e3e5510576756

Assigning the Digital Input
If there’s no sound, you’ll need to assign the digital inputs as
necessary using the setup menus on the TX-SR606’s display.
If you connect your DVD player to the AV receiver’s COAXIAL 1
DIGITAL IN, and your cable/satellite receiver to the COAXIAL 2
DIGITAL IN, as shown, it’s not necessary to assign the digital input.
The onscreen setup menus appear only on a TV that is
connected to the HDMI OUT. If your TV is connected to the composite video or S-Video MONITOR OUT, or the
COMPONENT VIDEO OUT, use the TX-SR606’s display when changing settings.

Thanks for using FixYa!

I just bought a Blue Ray player but my surround sound has a dvd player built in and only one input which I have my new Sharp TV plugged into. How can I hook up my Blue Ray . I have the HDMI cables

Depending on if your surround system has a hdmi input or not. if it does you can connect the blu-ray player to it. If it doesn't have an hdmi input you will have to run the hdmi cable from the blu-ray to the tv then run a set of rca cables (red and white plugs) from the tv audio out to the surround systems' audio input jacks to get sound through the surround system. Most surround systems don't have an auxiliary input for another video device.

My Onkyo TX-SR606 will not turn off, will not adjust volume, will not change modes, will not do anything but stay "stuck" on cable/satellite at volume 33. It will not reset. I unplugged it, waited, and...

contact onkyo and ask for a disc that you use threw the cd player via a toslink . The disc will upgrade your avr ,thus overwriting any problems you had. My tx-sr705 had an issue with popping during blu ray playback while the dts-master audio was being used. I got a disc that upgraded the chip that utilizes the codec's.

No sound with the tx-sr606

This is a problem of DSP. If enter service mode,
You will see a picture like this. You can do nothing
Except selling this amp cheaply. This DSP ??????
Causes NO SOUND in all channels. Besides, never
Buy 2nd hand onkyo from 5/6/7/805 to 5/6/7/848Series amps. You will suffer the consequences!!!!

Onkyo TX-SR606 getting no sound from HDMI sources on speakers. I have a motorola cable box and a panasonic DMP BD-35K blueray player both attached to the SR606 via HDMI cables (HDMI3 and 1 respectively)...

Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.

ONKYO TX-SR606 Single output to TV

Hi there. for your receiver, the only time it can upconvert is when you go out as HDMI. In your current hookup (component out to tv) the signal from your cable (using a composite) will not be able to pass through the component cable. This means you either have to hook up your cable box using a component cable as well or add a composite cable (yellow) from monitor out of the receiver to the tv. Page 22 of the manual will show a diagram of the video signal flow. hope this helps.. ^_^
