>Where is your presser fooot pressure set(1-9) it should be around 4?
>How fast are you free motioning (faster is better? from 1-10 10 being full speed.
>Is your bobbin threaded correctly (I need to cover the basics.)?
>Never never use a needle smaller than a 90/14 for free motion (I know everyone's an expert...but trust me)
After all this, it's OK to tighten your tension up on top a little when free motioning and getting eyelashes/spider webs on bottom. around 6 should do it though.

The overload message is usuall due to a bind in the mechanical function of the machine. When the motor has an extra "load" caused by something like a tight belt or dry bearing, it "overloads" the motor and the error message is displayed. It is doubtful your problem is computer related. Either way a trip to your service tech is required. If you continue to sew with it, you do run the risk of possible damage to some other parts of your machine. The computer portion of your Husqvarna is guaranteed for 5 years and the mechanical parts carry a 20 or 25 year guarantee depending on when you purchased your machine. A copy of your bill of sale from a Husqvarna Viking dealer or a stamped warranty card is the proof of purchase needed to obtain warranty replacement of parts. Labor is only guaranteed for 1 year.

I know the answer is a little late now...
I bought the machine a month ago and find that the bobbin picture is a bit misleading... i find putting the bobbin in the case, pushing the thread down over the hook thing (like in the picture) but then cutting the thread really short and putting the plastic cover on seems to work!
it is actually vary easy once you get the hang of it!

You can do embroidery or you can do free motion. If you're quilting a quilt sandwich (fabric, batting, backing fabric), you probably want to do free motion quilting. Embroidery would work better on fabric (with a stabilizer) but without the batting and backing fabric.

For free motion, you want a free motion foot--your machine's manufacturer probably provided one in the accessory kit (called a darning foot) or there are many generic free motion feet available for purchase (ie Big Foot quilting foot...). The BIG difference with a darning foot or free motion foot is that the shank is shorter than other presser feet because there needs to extra space between the presser foot and the needle plate so the quilter can easily manipulate the fabric. Usually, free motion quilters will drop the feed dogs to avoid feed dog interference with the fabric's movement, however, some quilters don't drop the feed dogs--just whatever works best for you and your machine. In addition, I use a Supreme Slider on the sewing machine surface--a silicone mat that provides a slick surface to help the fabric move.

There are a lot of web sites and video tutorials on free motion quilting. Take some time to watch them and then practice, practice, practice! It's an acquired skill so the more you practice, the better you will be.

Hi, Free motion quilting is done with your programmed quilting stitches, Lower the feed dogs using the small white dial on the front of the machine behind the accessory tray, pick from one of the quilting stitches. they do make a free motion quilting tool ( I think they call it a hoop), but it just sets on top the material and helps you guide your material thru the machine. Hope this helps

How do I move the presser foot on a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 sewing machine?
Not sure what exactly you need to know. Are you trying to lift the presser foot or change the presser foot to another one? If it is lifting, there will be a lever of some kind behind the machine. On one of my Husqvarna machines it was a big flat "paddle" shaped lever, not sure what shape it is on the Emerald machines. Lift the lever from the bottom upwards and outwards. Most Husqvarna machines have clip on-and-off feet. You just gently pull forwards on the foot (while the presser foot is raised) to remove it, then push the new one on making sure the small bar part of the presser foot goes into the clip on the presser foot ankle.

As Iam quilting with my macine the top stitches are ok, but back of quilt the thread is all boggled up-Tension ??
yes, this is a tension issue. Check your bobbin area. Make sure you have put the bobbin in the case with the H logo up and the thread pulls off the spool in a counter clockwise motion. Make sure the bobbin is sitting in the case and threaded through the "catch" on the bobbin case. Then leave a long piece of thread from the bottom, holding the end of the top thread, lower the needle for one revolution using the handwheel. Does the top thread catch the bobbin thread and pull it to the top? This is done without fabric. Your checking to determine if the top thread catches the bobbin thread and pulls it to the top. IIf it does not, it is most likely hook/needle timing. f it does, gently pull on the bobbin thread and determine if it pulls through with a little resistence (checking bobbin tension). Make sure you are using correct needle -- Schmitz or Inspira needles are recommended (Universal size 80 is standard). Make sure you are using Husqvarna Viking made for your machine -- original ones were green but there are some new colored ones but all have the Husqvarna logo on them. Otherwise take it to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. You can find your closest dealer at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us Good luck

Free motion quilting Viking Designer 1
I had the same dissatisfaction when I switched from the 1+ to the Designer 1. After some trials I am now happy. You need the springy free motion foot. Part #413 03 76-45. You take off the white shank and screw it on with the metal bar over the needle hook. In the set menu turn the SensorQ on, the free motion on, select stitch 1 from menu V and drop the feed dogs. It also makes a big difference to use the straight stitch throat plate which just has a small hole for the needle to go through. One other hint is that I often have to reduce my needle tension 3 or 4 steps. Hope it works for you.
