Sounds IMHO like a faulty connection, faulty switch, or crack in cord.
An electrician or somebody competent with power appliances and a test-meter will need to open and check cord first, then work forwards through switch, wires, motor brushes, etc.

Have you tried calling Dyson? I had a problem with my Animal, and their tech department talked me though the fix. Worth trying them first.

SOURCE: Just stopped mid hoovering and now won't switch on!

It is probably a thermal cut-off which is caused by a blockage. The machine will turn itself off before it overheats if it is a thermal cut-off. Once it has cooled down, you will be able to turn it back on again (usually 30 mins - 1 hour).

If the machine doesn't turn on at all anymore, you may need to replace the power switch. Call the Dyson helpline, they will do a blockage troubleshoot and if it's not that, they will tell you where you can find an authorized Dyson repair dealer in your area.

My Dyson DC35 just stopped .

Question edited for clarity and typos. Please don't call a Dyson a 'Hoover' (registered name of Hoover Inc), James Dyson will be very upset. :>D

Yes you can buy batteries very easily, but you need ascertain that it is the battery, or the charger, or the control board? With a digital multimeter it is very easy to check battery and charger, but you will need Dyson service to diagnose a board issue.

I have a Dyson V6 vacuum, it on last about 20 minutes on a charge, is this normal?

the work that the motor does consumes a battery charge in about 20 minutes
    Hoover is the same
although they are advertised as a whole house vacuum, their main function is just a quick dust /dirt collector where needed

    Just stops working during hoovering

Hi, it sounds that you may have a fault in your cable sometimes the wire inside the cable gets broken and only connects now and again when in the right position. I remember reading some where about this person had a dyson and had to get the wire changed for a second time as this was the fault. They put it into a dyson repairer to get the job done as you have to remove the motor. I no that's what you need to do on a dc07 animal. If its not the cable then it could be the temp cut out switch my first motor would go for so long hoovering then just stop and you would have to wait till it had cooled down then it would go for another short time. I had to get a new motor that time but it was covered by dyson . When the dyson man arrived i told him it was cutting out and he just fitted a new motor. I have since just replaced that motor myself rather than buy a new dyson. Always remember to remove the plug from the socket when doing repairs to your hoover.

Hoove Cyclonic Bagless vacuum shuts off after only a few minutes

The motor has a protective overload cutout device to stop it from over heating - this can be caused by a blockage of some sort in the hose or brushroll compartment or blocked filters.
After checking the above and it still cuts out, take it back under gurantee
