Numbers missing from Westinghouse oven knob, plus burner troubles
Hi all - I am a renter with a White-Westinghouse GF630RXD3 gas range (manufactured by Frigidaire, according to the product label under the range top, which might explain why all my searches for model # alone are under ''Frigidaire''). While it's far nicer than the ancient 20'' range my landlord originally gave me, I'm having a couple of issues with it. First, and most important, the numbers are all rubbed off of the oven knob. I just looked up replacements, and I'm not sure I want to spend between $26 and $45 for a new knob. Is there a way to determine what the temperatures are and re-mark the knob? I have the knob from my old stove, but I'm not sure if there's a consistency there... seems like a 20'' wouldn't go up to the same temperatures. Of course, the old knob doesn't fit (darn it).
Second, the burners light with lovely consistency all the way around, but even full blast only gets me medium heat. Takes about a month to boil water. And, if I have the oven on, the burners barely light at all. Is there an adjustment that needs to be made to fix this? There's no leak or anything, just a lack of performance.
And hey, as long as I'm on here, maybe someone could help me with the fact that the moment I turn on the oven, the timer goes off with this annoying little repeated squeal. Inexplicably, this lasts until I actually turn ON the timer, or I turn the oven off. It's not loud, just loud enough to be irritating.
Thanks much. I'm no appliance expert, so I'm glad to have found this site. -Amanda

Ok put a pan of water in your oven with a cooking thermometer in it. Turn your oven with the new knob you just got from repair shop. They are in the yellow pages Lots of laid of repair guys went out on there own. So they work at a lower price. As i was telling you.set your new knob @ 9:00 leave it there long enough to even out 10 minutes will do. next set it @10:00 next 11:00 @12:00 and so on. Till you get all your settings are compleat. Although
gas range oven may prove useful for cooking and baking, they may fail
to ignite if they aren't properly maintained and set up. Lighting a gas
range often involves simply turning a knob; however, blockages from food
particles and debris caught in the burners, improper burner cap
installation and gas supply are common problems that interfere with your
gas range oven's performance. A few troubleshooting guidelines may
solve these problems safely.
1
Check you have gas in your tank if your gas range oven won't heat. Contact your gas supplier if you've run out of gas.
2
Clean the burners if you have gas but your burners still
won't ignite. To clean the burners, lift the burner caps
3
Inspect the small vertical holes on the side of your burners
for dirt, food and debris. The gas won't ignite if they are clogged.
Scrape dirt, debris and food from the vertical holes using a pointy
object such as a toothpick or paperclip.
4
Reinstall the burner caps properly. If they are tilted or
wobbly, the gas may not ignite. Install the caps on the right burners.
Some burners are smaller than others, so match the caps to the
appropriate burners.
5
Move the burner knob to the "Lite" position and wait for the
gas to ignite. If it ignites, rotate the knob to your desired setting.
If it doesn't ignite, contact a qualified appliance technician.
If you go any hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot) they have universal knob replacement kits. Take your old knob with you and ask for help from someone who looks like they know something (the old guy). Its so much cheaper this way, exact replacement knobs can run $20 or more each. Good luck!!
Hi, It is the wrong knob. Do all the burner knobs look the same?
The oven knob has to have #'s on it so you know what hte temp is.
Please get me a model # and I can get you the part # for the knob you need.
the porcelain always remains white its the glow bar toward the end that will glow, you will need to check for power leading the ignitor, if indedd you have 110v, there replace ignitor very common issue with gas ranges
You need to replace the oven igniter. It's what you see glowing. They grow weak with age. TURN POWER OFF before servicing this. The numbers can often be found behind drawer at lower front, on oven frame, on left or right near bottom. Bring model # with you. It should be a standard magic chef igniter. Think it's 12400035. Remove oven floor to access igniter. It's held on by 2 screws in side of burner. Put some dishwashing detergent on them before trying to remove them. Otherwise they might strip out. The new igniter may plug right in or you may have to cut wires and attach with enclosed wire nuts. The 2 wires to it can be attached either way.
Clever. :) This is something I never would have thought of. Thanks!
