Return it for one that works. I have no problem returning items that are defective or inoperable for one that works as designed.
The are no serviceable parts, items are throw away wen no longer working. I have had players fail after years of service so I replaced them, there are 3 players in my drawer that I use

One thing that I have found that works is that you slide the switch to the "ON" position, but don't press play to turn it on all the way. Do this BEFORE plugging it into your computer. I have had the mp3 player fro a year or two and I have charged it about 15-20 times.

I could see the progress in the battery down right corner. If entire battery becomes black then it is full charged. However I have a problem of the charge getting discharged very fast i.e., when the player is NOT powered OFF.

On my Colby player there is a small reset hole in the back. Mine has sometimes just stopped playing and shuts off. If you use a small wire (paperclip works well) push it in and reset it.

there are adaptors out there that use the USB cord. It plugs into the adaptor. You can get them for home and car outlets.
