Hello, my acer aspire 5535-6608 keeps crashing, it was crashing in early june when I first got it. The the crashing stopped and it was perfectly fine. Now after I started a virus scan it started crashing again. Every time I try to scan my computer about half way through it may crash. First it makes a clicking sound, then a blue screen of death, then it goes to a black screen with the white writing. It says it cannot find the OS. I looked through all the devices and it says everything is working fine, but the strange thing is that it reports a problem with the agere systems hda modem is not compatible with Windows Vista SP1. And yet when I go through the devices again it says everything is working fine.... Thanks.
This problem is due to a failing hard drive I believe. When the virus scan is working you get a clicking sound then it crashes. Clicking sounds from your laptop while running scans on the hard drive are bad. The first thing to do is to get your irreplaceable files backed up then contact a service professional to get the drive replaced. If it is a reputable service person they should be able to clone the drive over to a new drive with no major issues. Be sure to insist on your old drive back. Even though it may have issues, my guess is that you still have personal information you would not want someone else to get hold of.
