SATA driver to install in old XP SP1 system cloned on new SATA dr

Hello. I have a K8X250GB Pro motherborad and need the STA driver setup. Context: I have an XP SP1 installation which works fine from an IDE drive. Now, I want to replace the IDE drive with a SATA one via cloning. The operation worked fine, only that SP1 has no native suport for SATA. Therefore, I need to manually install the SATA driver in this system. Thank you.

Vista handles SATA driver support pretty well, but if you need XP you can follow this guide http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slipstream-sata-drivers-into-xp-cd/

Hello, My my motherborad is ASUS p5rd1-vm;RAM1GB and hard disk is PATA 80 GB but the HDD is having some kind of problem and the windows have shown a warning about it several times. Now i want to buy a...

Yes, it's compatible with the motherboard, no, it's not compatible with the XP install disk because it doesn't have SATA support. And since Asus doesn't provides it special driver needed (one that must be put on a floppy) it means that you simply cannot install XP on this disk.
All you can do is to obtain another PATA hdd what ever its size and install XP in it. Then put the new SATA disk in and use it to store all the installed programs and all your files on it. As a bonus you won't lose them if the new PATA disk fails or XP gets corrupted.
Or install Vista or 7 instead of XP, the have support for SATA disks

Reinstalling XP Pro and need the sata drivers at start of install

Hello.
It's very difficult to install it using the SATA drivers at the beginning. Instead, I recommed this: enter BIOS setup and set the SATA controller to IDE and install Windows normally. Then, in Windows, install the SATA drivers provided by the mainboard's manufacturer and then, at the next reboot, enter BIOS setup again and set the SATA controller back.

No, you do not need to install a new driver as long as that is the same sata hard disk tha used to work in your Gateway computer. Just boot into your windows xp installation cd and let the setup continue.

Should you need further assistance, please let me know.

Hi,
It's totally up to you.
You can clone your IDE drive directly to the SATA drive or you can partition the SATA drive first before you clone the IDE.

Bear in mint that if you decide to partition the SATA drive make sure the partition is big enough to take the OS image.

Error code

Apparently the XP Pro CD you are using is pre-SP2, thus causing the error. With XP RTM and SP1, you need to supply the proper SATA drivers for the chipset on the motherboard since there is no built-in support for SATA drives. You can download the drivers from http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Downloads/DownloadFile.aspx?catid=1&driverid=2214&areaid=2&LanID=0

During the XP setup you will need to press F6 to install these driver before attempting to copy the XP files to the drive. Or you could make a custom XP CD using the directions at http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/preparations-for-winxp-installation-cd.html that has these SATA drivers already slipstreamed into the installation procedure.

Or if you know someone who has the WinXP Pro SP2 CD, you could borrow that for the install.

Hard Drive Prevents any other windows device from loading

Hi, Mark Here.
Yes the setup on the xp install puts drivers into memory, but being an older version of windows B4 sta was out it does not have drivers to support it.

You could go to Microsoft & search for a new version of setup install drivers that includes sta, & download to thumb.
Really typical Windows Failure (driver not available freeze up or blue screen).

Hanging on detection of drive when installing Windows XP

Installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not a straight-forward task as Windows XP does not recognize the SATA drive. In order to install operating systems such as Windows XP on SATA drives, the latest SATA drivers are required.Download SATA drivers for the motherboard from the website and integrate them with the XP installation CD using software such as nLite. SATA drivers can also be installed as third party drivers; you will be prompted during the installation process. Without proper SATA drivers, installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not possible as SATA mode would have to be disabled in the BIOS to continue with the installation.
Installing Windows XP on a Serial ATA hard drive is not an easy task, because the system does not recognize SATA drivers at startup. Windows XP Pro SP2 fares a little better with SATA drivers, but here is what can be done in cases where the driver is not recognized.
