Hello all,
I just got off the phone with a customer service rep. They gave me a song and dance on how they are not going to pay for a defective light engine. The want me to write a letter to the Service Appeals Committee. I told them I was aware of the class action lawsuit being filed in Texas. He didn't even flinch. He stated "they are not agreeing that this is a known problem or their problem." Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated. I don't know how to proceed from here. The rep told me I have to include a sales receipt. This T.V. was purchased 3 years ago. I doubt I still have it.
I have a Hitachi 50V500, bought in Dec-03, with a red shadow along outlines after the first year and now also a blue center and blue blotches at the bottom center of the screen.
I also called the H customer relations and got the same answer. The lady told me that I probably would get my claim denied, because they don't agree to help out with "first time" repairs. I called the Dallas lawfirm of the class action lawsuit, where the lady told me that they don't handle it anylonger. She did not want to tell me why. I wonder if Hitachi is successful in "settling" class action lawsuit against them. Lone customers are easier to deny any help. Well, I have the proof of purchase, and I will send that together with an authorized technician's diagnos and a prior repair history. If they deny to send me the light engine for free, I will continue to look into what happened to the class aciton lawsuit, and look for other lawsuits. I will not just "accept" this kind of defective major part on a product I paid several thousand dollars for, and took very well care of. This is something for news programs to bite into (not only repeat speculations about sensational news).
Sorry I cannot be of more help, but I let you know of my next step.
Lots of their sets had this problem(sony also has the same problem and they now cover the engine for 3 years) I have learned after being in this business for over 30 years---people who take no for an answer do not get anything---keep going up the chain of command and keep of record of who you talk to with date, name, etc If you spend enough time on the phone you may get somewhere--you have nothing to lose by trying. If you paid for the set by check or credit card you should be able to prove you paid for it and when.
