UH72400 brush roller doesn't work. Cleaned the roller and the belt appears fine. The toothed rotor doesn't spin, but can't verify if the on-off switch is working either.

You havE a Windtunnel air vacuum cleaner. If the brush roller isn't spinning and the switch is on, you need to pull down the handle to make the roller turn on.

The pedal on the left turns the brushroll on and off

  • Todd Edelman
    Todd Edelman Nov 20, 2021

There is no pedal switch. There's only one on top. And the unit has a parking feature which should turn off the brush when the unit is vertical.

My unit's brush turns on and then sort of whimpers to a standstill. It has a modern type belt with teeth, so slippage is unlikely, but I have a replacement. But I have a feel if I look inside I will see that the motor cuts out, so the problem is the motor, not the belt nor the brush itself, which I just cleaned. Sometimes the brush spins when the unit is vertical, so it makes me think that that the mechanism inside - sort of another switch - has failed.

My daughters is doing the same thing and the plastic at the ends of the brush bar melted just enough for it not to turn properly. You might want to chech that.

SOURCE: brushes won't spin on hoover steam vac ls

I have the SteamVac Dual and there's a screen on the underside of the unit. It's beneath the brushes and it's red. You have to pull and wiggle it to get it out. With the machine unplugged, lay the unit with the handle on the floor. In the owner's manual ( http://www.hoover.com/pdfs/manuals/F7222900.pdf ) this is shown on page 10 figure 3-2. Clean that screen.
If they still won't spin, then take the brushes out. Again, with the unit on the floor, you simply grab the unit firmly and pull towards you. It's much easier to remove than the screen. I took the brush unit outside and blasted it with the house. You'll have to pull out whatever fur balls are clogging it but eventually you'll see that the brushes spin freely with the water squirting on them. Plug the brush unit back in and - in my case - they started spinning.

SOURCE: brush roller on windtunnel won't spin

It sounds like you need to replace the actuator arm or the cable to it. Look for Hoover part 43143046 for a start. I've got a similar problem.

SOURCE: The V belt is too loose. The brush switch

Did you purchase the exact replacement belt for the vacuum, or did you buy one to match the one you have?

It sounds like you have the wrong belt, but, it could be the roller brush is not properly installed or the roller has worn down significantly.

SOURCE: Brush roller won't turn

On my Dyson, there is a brush reset button on the top right hand side (if you are looking at the front) that you can press to reset the brush. I was vacuuming and too lazy to move a toy and this worked for me once I freed the rope from the brush.

Miele Vacuum SEB 234/236 Roller Brush Issue

If the roller brush of your Miele vacuum SEB 234/236 only spins when you manually hold down the switch, it indicates that there is a problem with the electronic circuit or mechanical parts responsible for engaging the brush. This could be caused by a faulty connection, a broken wire, or a malfunctioning switch. It's recommended to have the vacuum serviced by a professional to diagnose and fix the issue.

How do i get my brush roller to spin ?

Hi,

Please check that all of your belts are still good (ie not stretched out, torn or otherwise worn). Also, please double check that you've cleaned all debris from the brush roll. You might need a tooth brush or a comb that you can throw out later. You might use shampoo to clean in. Then , please have the brush roll motor checked.

Thank you.

Brush doesnt spin - Brush motor check?

A broken drive belt, damaged brush roll, jammed brush roll bearings, tripped brush roll motor overload, failed brush roll motor or a wiring failure in the wand or nozzle can prevent the brush roll from spinning.

My shark rotator professional lift away brush will not spin brush button is on cleaned everything hot air is blowing out the hepa filter hose works fine just the brush wont spin n the belt is not broke...

Check that the drive shafts and bearings aren't rusted or frozen with junk. Try spraying them with WD40 and gently manipulating them in an attempt to free them up. It may require you manually disassembling some of the casing to get to the drive motor...

Vac is hard to push, mainly foward

In the past when I have noticed similar issues with a vacuum of my own I found the the roller brush was not spinning. I see that you replaced the belt and roller brush already, have you looked underneath while it's running to verify that it actually spins?
Other thoughts: height adjustment for type of flooring being cleaned and also possibly seized wheels(maybe WD40 could help)

I cleaned out a clog on my dyson and now the brushes will not turn.

Verify that the belt has not slip off. If the belt is on, remove it and verify that the motor spins when turned on. If it does, clean the belt well from any residue (I use alcohol). Also try to spin the roller with the belt off. If it doesn't spin easily, remove it and clean the sides of the roller. Some have bearing and sometimes gets clogged with hairs and dirt. After cleaning, add some oil to the side of the roller and make sure it spins freely. Hopefully your motor is not damaged.
Good luck.

Eats belts immediately

HI There,

Usually when the belt breaks immediately, this indicates that your roller brush has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I have never seen the motor shaft being damaged and causing belts to break before. When the roller brush can't spin because it's bearings have worn out, the motor shaft continues to try and turn the belt, but since the belt can't spin the motor shaft at that point burns right through the belt.

To make sure that it's your roller brush, remove the brush from the vacuum cleaner, and hold it using just your two pointer finger tips, holding just the bearings caps at the end of the bar, and not the bar itself.

Try to spin the brush using your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely without resistance? It should spin completely around 3-4 times on each spin. If it doesn't spin, then your bar is bad.

If the brush doesn spin, and it continues to break belts, this means that the belt is being installed incorrectly, and is being pinched by the roller brush. Pull the belt forwards after installing to make sure the brush spins freely.

Hope this helped you,

In Carpet setting, the vacuum brush does not spin

I put 3 turns of electrical tape around the area of the beater bar that meets the vacuum belt. This solved the problem short of replacing the beater bar.
