I have had a kit put in the carburetor and cleaned out the gas tank and hose .
SOURCE: mechanic mistakenly put gear oil in tank, the pump is knocking
What the heck did he think he was putting in the tank? Gear oil is very thick and heavy, so the fuel pump may have a problem as it is meant to pump gas, which is not thick and heavy like gear oil. There was probably some gear oil in the tank while the pump was operating, and it pumped some gear oil for a short time, which damaged it. Insist that the 'mechanic' replace the fuel pump at no cost to you ,and find a new mechanic for future repairs. Good luck.

if it's flooding the float may have a tiny hole which makes it not float as well and too much fuel will stall the engine...If it's not getting enough fuel to keep running then its usually because of a small piece of dirt blocking a hole..under the carb there should be a brass bolt...take that off and check that the two side holes are clear...then check the center orifice and blow it out...there is also a tiny little hole up near where the threads start...use a wire from a wire brush to make sure its clean....also clean out the bowl and then reassemble...this works 90% of the time for me

try running it with the fuel cap loose too...tecumseh has a lousy vent system and sometimes if the cap is not venting properly it will cause exactly what you are describing...also take out the jet...the brass bolt thing that holds on the fuel bowl...there are two feed holes...a center orifice and another tiny hole near where the threads start..these need to be all clean and open.

More than likely need a kit they are notorious for diaphrams drying out but most just by another
