Nothing Happens I have a germin nuvi 200 and when i plug it in not thing happens there is power to the plug but the unit does not come on? is there any thing i can do short of buying a new one?

You can just use a plastic pen or anything with a nib to press it, instead of using your finger. After pressing 5 to 6 times it should work

If a wall powered charger is used it could be bad or the connection from it to the unit damaged---happens if the charger is connected/disconnected a lot----same thing can happen if using the lighter plug adapter for charging.

make sure the outlet is recieving power

unplug the tower from the outlet & then replug it in & see what happens

make sure all cords are plugged in correctly in the back of the tower

then if nothing happens after you push the start button, power supply & cord could be bad

the same thing happened to my daughter's pc & had to replace power supply & shorted out the motherboard

If your Nuvi won't turn on, it's possible that it's locked up. Try using the reset button as follows.

Nuvi 3xx & 6xx Series: The reset is located on the rear of the unit, underneath the antenna. Press and hold it for at least 8 seconds and then release.

Nuvi 7xx Series: Slide the On/off power switch to the left and hold for at least 8 seconds and then release.

Nuvi 2xx & 2xxW: There are (2) different versions of this series.

Some will have the reset on the bottom, where the decal is. There will be a small flap labeled "reset".

On newer units, slide the On/off power switch to the left and hold for at least 8 seconds and then release.

I can help you fix your Garmin Nuvi 200.

The error message you are receiving about maps is actually a sign of a firmware corruption problem, which just happens from time to time with electronic devices. Updating the firmware of your nuvi will replace the corrupt firmware.

These are the steps to take to update your Nuvi 200:

Download and then run Garmin 200 WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software. Occasionally a nuvi 200 will also need a Hard Reset (preceded by a favorites backup) to bring it back to 100% operation.

Borrow a USB cable to plug it into a computer. I just had this issue with the nuvi 1300, and that was the only way to fix it.
Holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would attempt to restart it, but it would just get stuck on the "Loading Maps." section.
I was able to fix it by simply plugging it into a PC's USB port, where the unit started up for purposes of data transfer. Then I unplugged it, and it restarted properly.

This happens when the GPS unit is completely discharged. Try charging the GPS unit from an external source (USB from your PC or 5V USB power adopter). After a full charge, if the GPS unit powers on then something is wrong with the power cable or the 12V plug and you need to replace it.

well if the plug is not making contact it cant recharge. you need to have it repaired and that may well be costly as it will require a new motherboard. Parts are no longer soldered or repaired The motherboard will be repalaced and the basic board is ^$90 the labour 1.5 hrs o 2 hrs minimum at $95 I am sure you will be able to buy a new model for the same cost
