I have a Magic Chef Microwave Model MC0153UB that is shutting itself off while cooking. I noticed before this, the light under the microwave blew during a storm. Do you have any suggestions?
Sounds like its possibly overheating and causing a thermal shut down, possibly drawing more power then was designed and also causing the shut down. In any case there are no user servicable parts in a microwave. I would have it replaced or repaired if cost effective. In any event it poses a serious danger due to microwave rays and possibly the leakage of those rays. I would recommend not using the microwave due to safety concerns
No problem, Its an electical appliance and I'm not saying that it will explode or anything but you also would not light a match in a house where you smelled gas right...smile I'm just saying use your best judgement in this case, but you definately want to have it serviced or replace it ASAP. Its a good thing you don't use it much, I just want you to be safe is all Hope things work out fine.

It turns off and then back on minutes later.. it takes a while to turn back on (about 5 minuts)
It turns off and then back minuts later... it takes a while to turn back on though (about 5 minuts later)
Thank you 97F350diesel for your quick response :)
Sorry Im not good at this website, im a newie and I should have been more explicit in my problem description... we don't use the microwave much, usually to heat up some small bowls of food or more common to make popcorn. The shut off usually happens while making popcorn but I don't use the specif bottom for the popcorn in the microwave but I dial directely how many minuts I want it for... which I press 3 munuts and 20 seconds, then the microwave starts fine but sometimes in the middle of the time or at minut 3, then it shuts off leaving the popcorn bag undone... the power will turn back on itself after... lets say from 3 to 5 mintus later.
So, we only use the microwave for no more than 5 minuts of cooking. I don't know how old is this microwave, when we bought of house (almost a year ago now) all the appliances was included, so we are not the first owners of this microwave. However I just start noticing this problem a couple of months ago.
Now, I understand that its better not to use the microwave...but I wonder what happens if we keep using it... what could happen? could explote or something like that? Im sorry I might sound stupid with my questions but Im just a housewife and don't much about electrical stuff... I apologize!
Alright...I got yah!! :)
Well, I guess I just have to start saving to buy a new one. Thank you so much for your time and your great advices 97F350diesel ... you were very helpful :)
Does it trip a breaker/fuse or just turn off then back on?
