hook one up and press the primer bulb if it doesn't squirt fuel out when the bulb is pressed you have the wrong pipe connected
primers work like this they suck fuel from the tank , through the diaphragm pump , into the float diaphragm and out back to the tank
The line off the top of the primer bulb goes to the top of the carburetor.
The line on the bottom of the primer bulb goes to the fitting on the
center of the fuel tank and the line off the side of the fuel tank goes
to the bottom of the carburetor.
could be
if it fires but doesn't keep running , check the ignition wire on the run side of the ignition switch to the coil
that wire is a resistance wire and drops the voltage to the coil from 12 volts to 7.5 volts
it could also be a coil failing and not working off the reduced voltage
check the carby for fuel flow by when the engine is off look down the thraot of the carby as you pump the accelerator
you will see squirts of fuel indicating that the bowl id filling with fuel
possible problem in the "new" carby with the accelerator pump not working
look down the throat of the carby and work the accelerator (engine stopped)
if you do not see a squirt of fuel, work on the carby
if it is not fuel injected you can remove the carbi and squirt some fuel directly into the cylinder/s and then try to start it, if it starts the problem will most probably be a blockage in the fuel line/carbi or fuel filter. When you squirt the fuel into the cylinder the motor will only run for a few seconds before it stops but that is a good indication that it is a fuel problem
Flat spots come from fuel /air ratio problems and the Stromberg carby on the 2002 has a plunger accelerator pump that has a setting so that a steady stream of fuel is injected into the throat of the carby when accelerating. Check that the plunger is working all the way down and that the 2 ball valves in the pump are working and not held open with rubbish. Look down the throat and press down on the accelerator lever and you should see a steady squirt for the full throttle movement
remove and clean the carby. clean out the main jet. ensure that there is nothing stopping the primer circuit from working. There are two valves under the primer bulb and a spring. when you push in the bulb fuel is squirted into the manifold When you take your finger off the bulb the spring pushes it out and new fuel is drawn past a valve to fill under the bulb. Pushing in again closes that valve and opens a second valve which allows the fuel into the manifold again
sounds like a carby problem look down the carby and flick the throttle and you should see fuel squirting down the throat if not it is the accelerator pump in the carby
sounds like you hooked the lines up backwards, when you press the primer it is supposed to squirt gas into the tank on the return line cause what it does is draw fuel through the carb and back to the tank....filter line from tank goes to fuel pump side of carb and return line on carb goes to primer bulb then opposite line on bulb to tank...... so when you press bulb it draws fuel through filter in tank through carb and back to tank ! good luck! 2StrokeJim
Take top cover off(3 screws). Take off the 2 nuts holding the carb on. Pull carb part way out to access the hoses. Remove the 3 old hoses after making a diagram of where they connect. Buy new hoses. Cut one end of the small hose on a bevel, pierce both sides 1/8 th inch from the end with a needle. Thread a thin wire through both holes. Thread both wire ends into the gas tank. Use a hemostat or long needle nose plyers to pull the wires and then hose down into the tank. Attach the weighted fuel filter. The other end of this smaller diameter fuel line goes on the upper nipple on the carb. Take the side cover off (4 screws) to access the primer bulb. Take 2 screws out to remove the bulb which has 2 nipples. The longer nipple connects to the larger diameter hose which goes to the fuel tank. The larger diameter tube has a coupler on the end which is inside the gas tank. It took me an hour to change all 3 hoses. Bob
