My Dyson C25 animal vacuum is not working properly. When I press the roller button ( on carpet) it makes a whistling noise and wont clean carpets well. When I dont press the button vacuum does not make noise and works but that's only good for hardwood where roller doesn't have to work to pickup dirt. I bought a new reset switch and will try that but if it doesn't work do i have to replace the whole part that houses the roller? Should say that i took roller out and cleaned it but made no improvement.

Not sure about Dyson, but I would suggest there is a belt that drives the roller in the cleaning head. Its probably slipping or broken. You may have to take the head apart to see it.

SOURCE: I have a Dyson Animal. Roller bar won't turn/belt intact

Actually, I'm the poster who said I have the same problem, but it turns out I have the DC07 animal, not the DC14, but perhaps the solution is the same for the DC14 and it doesn't cost anything! I called DYSON and they told me the clutch needed to be reset, so she had me recline the vacuum from its upright position, lay it on it's side, turn the carpet/bare floor dial slowly back and forth between the two settings about 6 times and it apparently reset the clutch and now the cleaner bar spins normally and there's no more loud grinding-type noises. She said if that didn't work, the next step would be to remove the bottom protective panel (secured with the three large plastic screws) and lift the entire cleaner bar (do not remove the belt) out about an inch or so and then reinsert it and reattach the bottom plate. I hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

SOURCE: Dyson making loud noise

If your brushroller isn't spinning it will make the loud sound. Try removing the brushroll and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, you may need a new brushroller. You can find one here...

SOURCE: Older Dyson 07 Animal, loud ratcheting noise on carpet setting

That is an indication that the belts are worn, stretched or broken. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is a link to the belt(s) you need and a manual you can view:

Next to the power switch is another button, this switches the brushbar on and off. The brushbar can be turned off for hard floor surfaces so as not to scratch them

    White carpet height buttons flash

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC28's carpet height buttons will flash to let you know if you have the carpet height set too low for effective cleaning. Raising the brush bar to the next available height on the selector pad should resolve this.

If you'd like further advice from our experts after giving this a try, please give us a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Dyson dc17 makes loud noise on carpet setting. It's like a high pitch ringing almost but won't make the noise on hard floor, only carpet setting. Ive checked for blockages and cleaned all parts but makes...

It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

Why does my Dyson animal squeal on carpet

Hi, there are a number of different Dyson vacuums and they vary widely in construction. Unfortunately most models have an "animal" version so that's not helpful in identifying your particular cleaner. If you know the actual model number, I'm sure I might have some ideas of what will cause squeeling.

Off the top of my head, DC25's often have issues with "whistling HEPAs" but not usually carpet related, DC17's may exhibited brush roller noises if the belt is damaged. DC07's, 14's, 33's all have a clutch drive which sometimes fail causing "racheting" or other strange noises.

    Dyson eats my carpet

When using the Dyson or for that matter any other vacuum cleaner that has a motorized roller brush, you need to make sure that you AVOID open carpet edges since the suction end ( which has a roller with the brush) will grab open fiber ends. You should use an attachment or floor tool when cleaning open edges of your rug or carpet. Most vacuum cleaners come with a range of attachments that be used be used appropriately.

Belt wont turn makes a loud noise when put on carpet setting

If this is a Dyson with a protected belt that can't be replaced then it will have to be sent out to Dyson or get a Dyson servicepersonnel to check it over - protected belt motors are difficult to fix by yourself. If its clicking all the time, then it means the belt has to be replaced. In the mean time check that there are no obstructions on the beater bar and behind it and also check that the brush stop roller at the top of the hood is in the right position. It should move automatically when the handle is swung down in normal operation.

Dyson suddenly hard to push on carpet

I know this sounds silly, but it works. Turn it over and wipe all the black residue off the bottom of it (off the plastic on the bottom that rubs on the carpet as you push and pull it). I thought my husband was out of his mind when he told me that was the solution, but it really works.
