My printer does the same thing

What does Error 223 mean? Could HP not post what the code means so that we can make some sort of attempt to fix the problem??

When I call HP they seem to have no idea either, who makes up these code?? HP wants you to sign up for a service contract in order to define "Error 223", what kind of service is this? We buy the printer and then if we want to know the definition of this code we must buy a service agreement!!

Does anyone have a solution?

We have a receiving problem with our HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf . The exact issue is that, sometimes the machine is unable to receive a fax with any number of pages from different senders Also, the...

Error Code 223 (ECM error)

The receiving product has been unable to receive an entire page even after multiple attempts to rereceive the parts of the page that contain errors. This is usually due to extremely poor line conditions.

1. Reattempt the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.
2. If the error persists, disable ECM. Errors may still occur, and may result in degraded image quality on the received page. However, the ability to receive the entire document will be improved.

Error Code 420

V.34 negotiations have failed from the originating product during phase four, which occurs after V.8 and before the first T.30 frames are exchanged. Compatibility problems have been observed in this area when sending to non-HP units.

Reattempt the fax transmission at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.

Error Code 421

V.34 negotiations have failed from the originating product during phase three, which occurs after V.8, before phase four, and before the first T.30 frames are exchanged. Compatibility problems have been observed in this area when sending to non-HP units.

I keep getting comm error 242 when people are faxing to me

The "sender's" fax machine is attempting to RECEIVE a fax. This happens because they don't have the document fully inserted into the scanner before dialing. (According to HP's error code listing for "comm error 242" - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=buu02549) This is not a problem of a bad connection. Bad line condition codes are 223, 224 and most of the codes starting with 23.

Our HP Officejet 5600 won't receive faxes.

Hi,
Here is the answer to your question.

Error code 244 can mean any of the following things: :

1. You or the person sending the fax pressed the STOP key , causing the session to stop before completion.

2. The fax machine on the other end determined that there is an incompatibility with your machine and the one you are sending to and stopped the fax session.

To fix this you can try the following things. Try them one at a time, and if they don't work, place them back the way they where before you changed it.
  • Make sure the fax machine you are sending to can accept and use polling.
  • Select a slower "receive" speed.
  • Enable or disable the ECM setting.
Error Code: 232

1. Can mean that a communication failure has happened between the two machines.

2. It may also mean that the user of the FAX machine you are sending to has pressed the STOP key

3. If call waiting is enabled, it may cause this error. Disable call waiting on your phone line, if you have a fax machine connected to it. The click or beep on the line that indicates you have a incoming call, can STOP a fax session.

4. Another cause of this error code is that the power was interrupted to the machine you are attempting to send a fax to.

Things you can do to solve this problem: Try them one at a time, and if they don't work, place them back the way they where before you changed it.

  • Try disableing ECM. However, this may reduce the quality of your faxes.
  • Ask the person you are sending the fax to to set the machine to receive at a slower speed.
  • Try the fax again at a different time, incase it is a problem with the phone line.
  • If you phone lines are old, or there is static on the line it may cause trouble sending a fax.If this is the case you will need to contact your local phone company or whoever is responsible for servicing your phone lines.
