ZTR mowers will kill the engine if the operator seat is not occupied and the brake is released. Likely you have a failed seat switch but could be other... it will depend on the particular Toro model.

A Toro SS4250 will start ok but will not move. It makes a strange sound, as if a break is engaged. Any idea why it won't move?

Are the belts on and in good shape. Check and see if there is something jammed in all the working parts. I had a piece of wood stuck in a belt and pulley. Are all the pulleys working? check for a broken shear pin. You might try tractor is shut off and out of gear. Get down and reach underneath and turn the pulleys by hand and see where it is stuck. Just giving you ideas.

Toro 2000 commercial Z Master will not crank. Interlock switches good. . Battery and solenoid inew. Hear one click when turned to start position. can start mower by jumping battery leads at solenoid.

Make sure your solenoid is grounded and that the negative battery cable is well grounded also.
if those are ok, you can trace the little wires from the solenoid back to the switch and make sure there are no breaks. There are many safety switches in zero turns that could be the problem... don't take this personally but make sure your PTO switch is off. ??

My toro 1028 powermax snowblowers impeller is not spinning. I can move in either direction by hand with no resistance . Is it a belt or a pin? Please help.

It might be a broken shear pin. They are designed to break if an obstruction is hit.

Replace only with original equipment.

I replaced ignition coil on a Tecumseh Toro 20018 mower. It would not start without disconnecting green "kill" wire. Now what do I need to do - replace the kill switch? Is the kill switch located on the...

It is a short in the kill switch, or the wire running to the kill switch. check insulation on the wire running to the kill switch and check the routing of the wire to insure that it is not being rubbed by moving parts, or the insulation melted by hot engine parts such as the exhaust system. Finally check that the kill switch itself is functioning properly with a test light or OHM Meter.

I have a Toro walk behind self propeled mower. Last summer my sons hit something which made the mower stop running. I was told that I needed to replace somesort of key...? How...? How do I get the top off....

Was it the 'flywheel key' ? Does it yank the rope out of your hand violently when you try to start it?
Take the top shroud off, remove the flywheel nut, washer and screen. Remove the flywheel by threading the nut back onto the crank end to protect the threads and with a brass hammer ( and while lightly prying with a screwdriver from behind the flywheel) and a few good solid taps on the end of the crankshaft the flywheel should free up.
Remove the flywheel and inspect the key. Even .001th off will make the motor run funny or not at all.
