The dark halo, is caused, by the size of the lens. The convertor lens, is smaller than the front lens of your Samsung and blocking the light on the sides.
That is the halo you see. If you want a conversion lens for your Samsung, you need a bigger one.
how about in the menu button you can not get an adjustment in brightness control. if the display in the screen is too dark either in any channel or even watching a movie from an input source like dvd player, then i may say that the picture tube need now replacement.
Used the tv original remote go into tv Menu goto PICTURE turn on more Backlight like +5 and like Contrast +30.The tv back ground should be alot brighter.
Did you use a generic replacement? Many TVs have a dark picture after replacing the original lamp with a generic. The other issue I've encountered are TVs that have been exposed to cigarette smoke will develop a dark, discolored picture over a relatively short time.
