I suspect that you don't have an Iomega driver in play for use with this Macbook pro that the OS recognizes. There are other possible explanations, you might have a corrupted volume or there might be a problem with the file structure on the Iomega. But if the Iomega was not previously recognized by this MacPro, I think what is missing is a useful driver. You might try one of the driver hunter utilities and see if it finds such for the iomega. If several are found, you would have to try each one at a time and uninstall any that did not work before trying the next, I think.

Here is something else you might try. On the MacPro, on the desktop go into Applications>Utility folder and from the Utilities folder launch the Disk Utility application. If your Iomega is discoverable, it will show up in the left side of the Utility window. If you see it, click on the left side of the window and choose Disk Repair.
If you don't see it in the left side of the Utility window, you may have a corrupted volume preventing it from properly being read on your Mac or there may be a problem with the file structure of the Iomega.

SOURCE: external drive wont mount

Hi,

Try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.

Restart the system.

If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :

Check this before you try to edit the registry values.

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/profiles.1.html

Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.

HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

And delete all references to the external hard drive.

And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.

After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

SOURCE: I have a Iomega MDHD500-UE that has worked fine

I would very soon, purchase a hard drive and get all the files off this drive asap.
I had a drive that would work with symptoms like this and it eventually completely stopped. I heeded it's warnings and got all my file off and backed up onto another drive before it was too late. Plus drives ...big sized are really inexpensive right now...
Get a backup.... don't take a chance..

I have an Iomega MDHD500-N external hardrive. I erased a folder of photos accidentaly. How can I recover the photos?

Did you look in your recycle bin. If you are lucky you may be able to restore them from there. Other than that, that is why they also say to do a backup every once in a while. Please rate my answer to I am rewarded points for it.

My laptop does not recognize my iomega hard drive

You need to format your drive to work with your Mac. The drive is shipped formatted as NTFS (Windows).
I'm going to assume that you are using Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
1. Open Disk Utility
2. Select Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
3. In the left hand column, click on the drive icon for the Iomega Hard Drive.
********Make sure you click on the high level icon, not the second level volume icon.********
4. Select the Partition tab.
5. Change Volume Scheme from Current to 1 Partition.
6. Select the format type from the Format drop-down menu.
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (recommended) or Mac OS Extended.
7. Click on the Options button.
8. Select the type of partition you want to use:
GUID Partition Table - for boot ability on Intel-based Macs
Apple Partition Map - for boot ability on PowerPC-based Macs
Master Boot Record - if you will use the drive on a PC as well as your Mac. Use this option ONLY if you selected PC-DOS as the format type.
CAUTION! In most cases, the computer will fail to format the drive as a Mac OS Extended (HFS+) partition using Master Boot Record. For best results, always choose GUID Partition Table (Intel) or Apple Partition Map (PowerPC).
9. Click OK.
10. Click Apply (10.5-10.6) or Partition (10.4). The drive is ready to use when the format completes.

Describe your external hard drive iomega MDHD500 Problem: I've just bought a MAC OSX computer which doesn't recognise my iomega hard drive (used on a PC) is there a way to fix this?

Are there any files on the disk-drive that you want to keep?
If so, connect it to a PC, and copy those files.

If not, connect it to the Mac, and allow the Mac to 'format' the drive, to initialize it for use on the Mac.

Got new macbook pro. Iomega external drive is not recognized on desktop

Have you used this drive on a mac before?
Windows usually uses a different file system to macs. You may need to format the drive to work with macs.
Sorry if this was not your problem, you may be better off looking on mac forums.
Good luck
