Question about LG Refrigerators

1 Answer

LG LSC27931ST Fridge is not Freezing or Cooling.

Details: 1. The compressor is Real Hot. 2. The compressor looks as if a Supco URC0810 Hard Starts was attached. Feels like its running but don't hear it "Kick" though I did see the inside lights dim and get bright again when plugged in. 3. Did a Test Mode (I think right) it reset some time later and same issue. 4. The fan in back bottom seems to be functioning and blowing on Condensor. 5. The inside fans come in and out it seems. I open the doors and sometimes it is blowing softly and other times not at all. Both sides Fridge and Freezer. 6. I can send pics also if it is an option.

SEEMS THAT ALL THINGS THAT PEOPLE WANT FIXED THEY WANT FREE AND THAT DOES NOT COMPUTE CALL A LOCAL REPAIR PLACE AND SEE WHAT THEY WILL CHARGE YOU TO REPAIR IT THEN DECIDE WHAT MAKES MORE SENSE .WE CAN NOT DO IT FOR YOU

So it's not that it can't be fixed its that you want to charge for the information. So why even comment then. I thought this site was to help diagnose issues and share information, Is this not true? If anyone actually has information helpful let me know.

I find this shady, its no wonder no one trust people they tell you intentionaly things that are not true rather than be up front with you. Beware of such repair men. Its ok to pay someone, but only competent honest tradesman, not those who would not be upfront from the start.

SOURCE: Kenmore 596-76512 fridge not cooling freezer seems to be working still

If the fan above the evaporator coils in back of the cover isn't running then no cold air will be blown up to the fridge area. That's a common failure item and very easy to replace yourself. And by the way... $200 bucks and 2 weeks out is about normal these days believe it or not. It's what we would charge ya! :) At least you did the troubleshooting and saved yourself a couple hundred bucks.

SOURCE: Freezer and Fridge side not cooling

Sounds like your Defrost heater is burned up. It is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the lower cover. Look at the base of the condensor. Two screws hold the heater and two wire connectors. The heater is in a glass tube. Measure continuity from one end to the other, you should see a few ohms. if it is open, your heater is definitely burned. I got a good deal on a replacement heater on Ebay. I think it was $17 including shipping. The heater being bad will cause major frost buildup in the back of the freezer and stop the Ice maker from working and damage food. Be sure to thorougly dry the freezer compartment prior to putting it back in operation. If too much moisture is present, the new heater will evaporate the moisture into the Ice dispensoer motor and solenoid that swtiches from crushed to solid ice. Hope this helps. it has nothing to do with your problem, but please Check out my website www.playstationclinic.com

Domestic sl135 roof top a\c on 1987 honey 421s rv. Unit has 2 capacitors and 1 relay now. Can I add a 2 supco spp6 hard start capacitor?

I wouldn't recommend on both capacitors. One is typically for compressor and one cap is for condenser fan [which doesn't need the supco kit]

Emerson model#CR519B. The unit just stopped working. If plugged in a motor runs for about 8 seconds and clicks off; about a minute later it repeats. Help

I had the same problem with a small wine cooler. It happened to me twice in 6 years. Both times I had to replace the starter relay.

I couldn't find any repair facilities willing to work on these small wine coolers or refrigerators, probably because the bill would be more than the used fridge is worth. If you feel confident around a volt/ohm meter and electricity, you could learn how to test this and maybe fix it yourself.

You shouldn't do any of this if you aren't familiar with using a Volt/Ohm meter and can safely and confidently work around electricity.:

  1. Unplug the fridge
  2. I first tested the compressor with an Ohm Meter (see how with youtube video below or by reading how at Davesrepair.com). It was good, but it kept starting and stopping within a few seconds.
  3. Basically my starter capacitor/relay wasn't working. It supplies temporary starting voltage to the starter relay in the compressor, then cuts off to allow the motor to run.
  4. I bought a Supco 3-in-1 on Amazon for less than $13 and hooked it up according to the supplied instructions. It lasted about 3 years.
Of course, the factory recommended repair is to buy the original replacement relay, but it will be more costly and harder to find.

I bought a Supco 3 in 1 Hard Start relay sized for the HP on my compressor. Mine was the Supco RCO810 (see link below).

NOTE: Before I replaced the starter relay and overload protection with a Supco 3 in 1, I learned how to test the compressor with a Volt/Ohm meter. If you don't have a meter, you can buy them online or inexpensive to free with a coupon at Harbor Freight.

My KTM3900WB fridge/freezer is not freezing and cooling in the fridge. The light goes and can hear the motor is running.

You are either low on freon refrigerant, or your compressor is frozen (usually due to low freon) or your compressor is bad. the motor will cycle on and off even though the compressor is not working. the refrigerator away from the wall and look compressor will be a nerf football sizedand usually black cylinder. It could be very hot or cold/frozen. can also unplug the refrigerator leave it for a few hours and plug it back in if it work you are low on freon. You need a repairman

HVAC fan is on, but the compressor attempts but will not start

Sounds like you have a condensing unit that has a lock up condition; commonly known as "Locked Rotor'.
A simple step would be to be sure the compressor is cool.
Start the unit, and as it try's to start, bump the compressor on the shell sideways to jar it , with a rubber mallet.
If the compressor starts... it may or may not start again at one point.
You can try adding a start assist, or commonly known as a Hard Start Kit. It's simple and the two wires go on the Run Capacitor In parallel with the wires with the compressor wires.
Usually the capacitor has a C common ..F fan.... and M motor terminals . The start assist wires piggyback on Common C and M motor. NOT THE FAN side of the run cap.

Samsung rs2630sh not cooling or freezing

If it has fan to deliver cold air, and it is not working, cold air is stuck on the begining. So your fan could be dead. And I suppose, that compressor is running all the time. Even compressor could stert freezing if fan does not deliver cold air in fridge. The other option is, that there is not enough gas in the compressor. In this case compressor vould not be freezing, but line, going out of compressor has to be hot, if it is not, there is no gas.

How to wire in new hard start

It's very simple to install a 3N1 Supco Hard Start Relay, Some refrigerators have a run capacitor located on compressor or mounted nearby. It will be important that you use the run capacitor in with the 3N1 Hard Start. Here is a Photo of the=> URCO810_3_N_1

The instructions come with the 3N1 Hard Start Relay. Can you please post the model number of your refrigerator here so I can look up a wiring diagram? Look around the fresh food section door frame for your model number. I do need to know so we can get the right run capacitor in the 3N1 hard start circuit, Thanks Sea Breeze

Air compressor starts and then shuts off

Do you mean it runs for 1 or 2 seconds and stops or it runs for minutes and stops? If it never really starts (runs for a second or less) then it is probably a capacitor start motor and the capacity has gone bad.

If it runs for minutes or more and then stops and subsequently restarts when it has cooled then the thermal overload switch is turning it off when the motor overheats. If the unit is not all that old, hasn't been run particularly hard and you have this problem every time you turn it on when it is just pumping up, (which is to say, there is no good reason for the motor to be overheated) then the thermal overheat switch is probably defective.

If the compressor is being run hard when this happens, then the unit is being overheated from heavier use than for which it was designed. If the interior of the compressor motor has a coating of saw dust or dust, it acts like an insulator and results in the motor heating more quickly than it should under normal circumstances. Also, if it is being used in a hot environment it will likewise have trouble cooling.

So, if it really doesn't run at all, it is probably the motor starting capacitor. If it happens when the compressor isn't really hot, then the thermal over-temperature switch is probably defective. If it gets genuinely hot, but without being run hard, then the motor might need to be cleaned because it is not cooling properly. If it happens when it is hot and it is hot because it has been run hard, then either don't run it as hard, cool it better or get a bigger compressor. If it is clean inside, not being run hard but still overheats, then I would look at a malfunction in the compressor portion of the unit having more friction than it should (bearings lubricated?) thus requiring more horsepower to run the compressor than the motor is designed to generate and results in overheating. Low voltage can also do the same.

Supco wiring an old freezer. Orange wire?

Was the orange wire on a switched live on the old compressor connections? It may come on when the compressor goes off in that case. If not, recheck the schematic for the other end of the heater. If it has a neutral, join the orange to the live feed to the supco. If it has a live, leave the orange on the neutral of the supco.
