SOURCE: searching for base
My long-term experience with these phones is that occasionally, they get themselves into some kind of weird state: this is usually indicated by the flashing "searching" message.
In all cases it's been cured by unplugging the power supply AND the phone-line (both simultaneously) from the base, waiting a few seconds, then re-connecting. Normally this sorts things out, but will require you to re-set time& date (the base can sometimes still derive power from the incoming 50v line). Batteries out of handsets is a last (addtional) resort. I've very rarely had to re-register.

Per the manual, If there is a musical note in the display with a slash thru it, you have turned off the ringer. You have done this by pressing and holding the # button.
If you have the manual it's on the bottom of page 20 and continues on 21.
If not follow these steps.

What you can do is go into the management console for your system and find the forwarding this is under extentions option 2 fwd/dnd select your extention number and on the bottom option FWD No Answer Time (s) set it to 10 or more and this will change the number of rings.
I use a KX - TDA600 PABX so I hope this helps
