The problem is that the supply lines feeding that faucet are reversed. That is the cold supply line is feeding the hot side of the faucet and the hot supply line is feeding the cold side.

The fix is to reverse the supply lines where ever they can be most easliy accessed.

SOURCE: how does a 9s-4h/c danco stem install.

the spring goes in first then the rubber seat goes on top.put them together first on a small screwdriver,insert on hole push down on rubber into hole it should stay.replace stem in reverse order of takeing off.

You did not tighten the stem enough, allowing the seat to rise just above the cavity where it will sit. You may also have scaling in this area preventing the seat from sitting flush.

Turn off the water supplying the faucet. Now open the faucet. Remove handle by taking off index button and removing screw. You may need to purchase a handle puller, 10-15 dollars, and a stem wrench set. After removing handle, place appropiate sized wrench on stem and turn counter clockwise. Before installing stem, make sure it is in the open position. You may need to use the handle to turn the new stem. Screw in clockwise.

DIAPHRAGM-TYPE FAUCETS

  • The diaphragm faucet is washerless but is similar to washer-type faucets. A rubber diaphragm between the stem and seat creates a straight-down, frictionless close. As with washer-type faucets, diaphragm faucets have two handles.

  • Remove the stem by following the steps outlined for washer-type faucets. Instead of a washer on the end of the stem, you'll find a swiveling disc. If the rubber diaphragm doesn't come out with the stem, it is still inside the faucet.

  • If the diaphragm didn't come out with the stem, use pliers to peel it from inside the faucet and pull it out. Install a new diaphragm around the swiveling disc, then replace the stem in the faucet.

  • If the faucet is leaking around the stem, replace the stem's O-ring before reinstalling the stem.

You need to tighten the packing nut down just a little at a time until that problem stops. This diagram will show you the nut whitch is part of the stem. It is item 4 in the diagram.

Your fixture body may be corroded beyond repair. Since you've replaced all the rebuildable parts, I'd suggest you get a plumber to check it but expect that you'll need to replace the faucet. Get a modern "cartridge" (Delta, Moen or Kohler) fixture that can be easily repaired indefinitely.

The part # you supplied is for a shower door and has no bearing to your question. There is no relationship. However, I can say there is no adjustment for any two handle shower stem or even single handle stem. Very rarely will just replacing an "O" ring stop a drip unless it it from through the stem itself and comes out under the handle. When in doubt replace the whole stem...shortcuts will only exasperate the problem. There are no shortcuts in plumbing.

Sterling shower stem replacement, anyone know how? I changed it out, hard to turn, and slips at times
Sterling like many others made many different types of faucets and stems. To service any of them you need to remove the handle. Then depending on the type of stem you can make your repairs. Most common Sterling stems were brass. Most common cause of slipping is stripped broach on stem and or handle. The broach is the star shaped part of the stem that the handle slides on. If it is stripped replacing the stem and or handle should do the trick. As for the tighteness of the stem, this could be the packing nut on top being to tight or stem may be damaged. Hope this helps.
