My gps 1400 wont turn on at all even after I tried to charge it

Even with a dead battery....even with a battery removed, the unit should still operate normally when connected to an external power source, like a DC car charger. Common problem with the Nuvi 1100, 1200, 1300 & 1400 series is a loose USB port. If the port has broken away from the PC board, you will not be able to charge the internal battery and the unit will give you constant pop up notices that it is powering down or it may not come on at all. the 1440 does not have a reset persay, the way to reset it is to hold the power button to the off position for 15 seconds, then restart it!

that will not cure your problem though if the update was interrupted....run the update again..either with a fully charged battery or plugged in to power using the home charge.

if the update fails, i can give you something else to do.

keep in mind, Magellan will repair or replace (free of charge) any of there gps that were rendered inoperable do to one of there updates, but they will want you to try the update first before you send it back, so might as well get that out of the way

my sure the battery is fully charged or plugged in and charging, then run the update again...if that fails, let me know.

You battery is dead. Even though it is saying charging, your battery is not accepting the charge.

Try holding the power button while plugging it in. Also try holding the power button while wiggling a mini screwdriver in the reset hole

plug it in to the house or car charger for at least 4 hours, then try again. if it still wont turn on, we can try something else.

look in the tip of the DC charger and see if the fuse has blown. This is usually the case.
Be warned! starting the car with the GPS plugged into DC can blow your SIIRF chip... no more satellites! and an expensive repair. be thankful it was the fuse this time

turn device over and look for tiny reset button near to power connect strip. then use a blunt safety pin to reset,this should allow you to then turn it on,this works on 500 ,700 ,900 , 510 , 710 , 910 , hope this helps .

The reset button fixed the power problem. Thank You, Thank You!!!!

I pushed the reset button, on the side,during the brief moment that it stays powered up. Now it is staying on with the wall plug.
I'll let that stay on for a while and then try to keep charging it with it turned off.
