Panasonic PT 47WX54J. Blue, green and red out of focus. Tried to adjust convergence and now have warped areas on the screen where the red and green don't align.

Replace the convergence ICs they will be big black ICs and will have Part number on them example STK392-110

This tv have a problems call convergence,it dead.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead.These parts must be replaced to solved convergence problems.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

I am not familiar with that particular model but most are similar.
It may need the blue focus adjusted. Most tv's have some type of automatic focus. If the blue is out of focus it can "bloom" beyond the red and green. There should be a focus block with 6 adjustments (2 rows of 3) behind the speaker cover. I wouldn't mess with the one labeled screen or block. Adjust very carefully. They are usually in the order Red-Green-Blue with the focus on the bottom row.

You dont need codes for the service menu you need to repair the convergence circuit. If the lines wont line up in the customer menu they wont line up in the service menu either. No, there is no such thing as a convergence box. There is a convergence board but it should only be touched by a qualified tech who knows what he is doing. If you suddenly see an arc of color on one or more sides of the picture, and you cannot correct it with the user menu, it means that one of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. A good tech can replace the IC (and fuses if needed) in-house in about an hour and a half. I charge $150 when I fix a set like that but shops in your area will vary so ask around.

The blue picture tube of a projection tv is usually the weakest in ability to focus and in most cases loses its focus ablility before the red and green. Connect a cross-hatch generator to the rf inputs of the unit and check to see which areas are most out of convergence. The corners are usually the worst. HD will always bring out the slightest imperfections. If the unit was totally out of convergence, I would have suggested replacing the convergence IC'S.In my experience with rear projection, your problem is normal wear . You could conceivably improve the picture by adjusting the blue focus on the screen focus block. Scrivitron
